Well, here in Utah, we're actually a pretty safe state, coming in at #47 on the Most Dangerous States list, with Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, and Alabama being the MOST dangerous in the country. But while inside Utah, one of the safest states in the country, which CITIES are the most dangerous? In this article we're going to break down the top 10 MOST DANGEROUS cities in Utah based on the following criteria:
- Murder
- Rape
- Robbery
- Assault
- Burglary
- Theft
- Vehicle theft
THE MOST DANGEROUS CITIES IN UTAH:
1. SOUTH SALT LAKE:
A little over 10 years ago, South Salt Lake had more violent crimes per capita than any other city in Utah. The scariest part? Most of those were murders. South Salt Lake is the area between Downtown Salt Lake and Murray. Towns like Millcreek and Sugarhouse are considered South Salt Lake.
2. SALT LAKE CITY:
Salt Lake City ranked #1 with property crimes while coming in at #2 with violent crimes. The chances of being in a crime in SLC is about 1-in-12! That's the highest in the state.
3. OGDEN:
In Ogden, you've got a 1-in-20 chance of being involved in a crime. Ogden is #3 in both violent crimes and property crimes. A 5% chance of being in a crime doesn't sound too big... but that's a little too much for me!
4. WASHINGTON:
Shockingly, Washington, Utah makes this list at #4. Washington comes in at the 8th highest chance of being involved in a violent crime. But, here's the REAL SHOCKER... A few years ago Washington had the THIRD MOST murders in the entire state!
5. TOOELE:
In Tooele, they came in strong on the 4th highest number of property crimes and 5th highest with violent crimes! In Tooele, you've got a 1-22 chance of being involved in a crime!
6. BRIGHAM CITY:
Brigham City is just like Tooele, but opposite! They are 4th in violent crimes and 5th in property crimes! Brigham City is known for more than just their peaches, though. They've got a 1-25 chance of being involved in a crime. That's 4%.
7. CEDAR CITY:
The 2nd Southern Utah city on this list, home of Southern Utah University: Cedar City. Cedar was #14 on the list for property crimes, but was #5 on the list for murders and #6 for violent crimes per capita.
8. SANDY:
Another city in Salt Lake County, Sandy, Utah! Sandy came in at #8 for murders, and total crime per capita. These violent crimes were assaults... which I guess is better than Murder! But there were also high amounts of robberies and rapes.
9. WEST JORDAN:
West Jordan was #11 on the list for violent crimes in the state, and for every 100,000 residents there were 186 violent crimes. That doesn't sound TOO BAD.
10. PAYSON:
Payson is home to Footloose, but it's more than singing and dancing! Payson came in at #22 on the list for violent crimes... but SHOCKINGLY #2 on the list for murder! YIKES!
