Southern Utah Girl Returns Home After Months In Hospital!
What started as a pretty normal December night for a Southern Utah family quickly turned into a parent's worst nightmare: 14 year old Alli Allred was involved in a devastating e-bike crash that had her life-flighted. After months of uncertainty, months in a hospital, and some hard-fought physical therapy, Alli is finally back where she belongs: at home, in the loving arms of her family.
Alli's devastating e-bike crash on December 15th left her with a critical brain injury. Alli had been riding her new Surron electric bike near her home. She was heading to pick up her cousin when she collided with another e-bike. This crash through her from the bike, and neither rider was wearing a helmet.
The Road to Recovery: Alli’s Journey Begins
Since that awful night, Alli's recovery has been anything but easy. For much of the past two months, she has been spending her time at St. George Regional Hospital where she worked through intensive rehabilitation. One of her biggest milestones: learning to walk again.
Alli's father, Kelton Allred says the process has been incredible, but the journey is far from over. Allie is now walking, but she struggles with balance, double vision, and some memory loss caused by the brain injury. Everyday tasks that were once easy, now remain very challenging, and doctors have warned that another serious fall could set back her recovery significantly.
Home Sweet Home: Preparing for Alli’s Return
Despite all these challenged, the moment Alli walked out of the hospital alongside her dad was filled with smiles and some tears. Allie is excited to be going home. To prepare for her return, family and friends have helped modify the family's home with safety upgrades like stair markers, gates, a shower chair, and some monitoring devices. However, the medical bills and time away from work have created stress for the self-employed family.
The Allred family says they're focused on gratitude and progress, one small step at a time. Alli hopes others will learn from her experience and she shares a message: wear your helmet.
