Want To Hike Angels Landing? Here’s When To Enter The Lottery!
If you've got 'Hiking Angels Landing' is on your 2026 bucket list, it's time to start planning!
Permits Available: Key Dates You Need to Know
Zion National Park officials have announced that the next seasonal lottery for permits to hike Angels Landing will open Friday, February 13 and close on Wednesday, February 25. This lottery covers hiking dates between March 1 and May 31, the prime hiking season in Southern Utah!
If you've ever stood at the base of that MASSIVE ridge and looked up at that huge section with the chains, you would know this is no casual stroll. Angels Landings is one of the most photographed, dangerous, and talked about hikes in the entire country... and definitely one of the most crowded.
The "crowded" problem is the exact reason this permit system exists.
Since 2022, Zion National Park has been requiring hikers to win a lottery before climbing beyond Scout Lookout. The goal is to reduce congestion, improve the safety, and make the experience a little less shoulder to shoulder on those high narrow cliffs.
How to Secure Your Angels Landing Permit
Here’s how it works:
You must apply through Recreation.gov. There’s a $6 application fee, that is nonrefundable, and if you’re selected, permits cost $3 per person. You'll be able to cancel up to two days before your hike for a refund of the permit fee. There’s also a day-before lottery option. On the day-before option, there will be the same fees, but no refunds.
Additional lottery windows will open throughout the year for summer, fall, and winter hiking dates.
Zion National Park will draw just under 5,000,000 visitors annually, making it one of the most visited national parks in America. And with more than 200,000 Angels Landing permits issued each year, demand isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
