My wife goes nuts for all things Halloween now.  I don't know where this came from suddenly but she's been buying things from Grandinroad.  We now have a dragon from them for some reason. They have a whole section just for Halloween decorations. She's also a fan of Designtoscano.com.  I'm sure there's more stuff on the way to our house from them too.

Our neighborhood in Diamond Valley doesn't even get that many Trick Or Treaters but when they get to our house, they'll surely see some wild stuff this year.  I have to applaud the people that design this stuff.  Imagine if this was your job.

How fun would this be to design stuff like this that makes people laugh, freak out or just look twice?

You bought a WHAT at Home Depot?

And it's fun to see characters you know showing up in your neighbor's yard.

Playful stuff along with the scary stuff adds to the collection.

How many dads went to the hardware store to get a bag of cement and some electrical tape but since they took the kids along, they now have a few of these?

I have friends who buy these things at Halloween but use them at other times of the year when you least expect it.  This is only mildly creepy when you see it here or on the porch on Halloween night but when you hang it by the window in July for someone to see when they turn on the kitchen light, it really jumps.  As so does the person seeing it.

And it's not really complete without adding a few "signs of the times"

The sign says "Do not lie in the casket or sit or climb on the casket".  I can't think of any circumstance where climbing into the casket will happen at all.  Years ago, I had a friend who had to be carried in to host a contest at a bar.  There were 6 girls dressed in black that carried him to the stage.  It all seemed like fun as Michael Jackson's Thriller played and they were weaving through the crowd across the smoke filled dance floor.  When he opened the casket and sat up, the place went nuts.  That was the good part.  Afterwards he told me, "I am never doing that again!!!"  It really freaked him out to be in a real casket with the lid closed.
