Southern Utah's Athletic Legacy

Southern Utah is truly no stranger to some amazing athletes. I mean even 2 years ago, we had an Olympian from tiny little Panguitch, Utah in Whittni Morgan. But, what just happened, also involving a runner from Southern Utah, feels like something straight out of a sprots movie! Most of us are proud to just finish a 5K without puking up breakfast, but one local woman decided to casually rewrite the history books by RUNNING 100 miles faster than any woman has ever done so before!

A Record-Breaking Achievement

Ashley Paulson, a 44 year old woman from St. George, literally just set a brand new world record for the women's 100-mile! Ashley finished the grueling distance in an absolutely incredible 12:19:34. Yeah... 100 miles in 12 hours 19 minutes! She averaged a blazing hot 7 minutes 21 seconds per mile the entire time! This record-breaking performance happened Friday night at the Jackpot 100 race in Henderson, Nevada. This race went down at the Cornerstone Park, where it also served as the USA Track & Field 100-mile National Championships. These runners completed a 1.1 mile course around the park an astonishing 84 times, a mental challenge that most people can't even imagine!

Friends and runners watched in complete awe as Paulson steadily chipped away at these laps and miles. Longtime friend, Bre Carter described the energy surrounding Paulson as electric, saying her determination and positivity never faded, even as the miles piled up! Anyone familiar with endurance racing knows that pace would hurt during a marathon... let alone almost FOUR marathons back to back!

Inspiration from Local Utah Athletes

Pretty incredibly for a St. George local... Hell! Pretty incredible for anyone, and proof that some of the toughest athletes in the world might just be training right in our backyard!
