
8 Employees Fired For Mocking Charlie Kirk’s Murder
The biggest story in Utah history has hit close to home this last week. The assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. It's been something that has shaken our entire community and entire country. Kirk was shot and killed right here in Utah, while the accused killer is from our backyard, here in St. George.
If you've been on any social media, you've probably seen people celebrating or mocking the death of Kirk. You've probably also seen those same people crying on video that their employers have fired them for their open celebrations of an assassination.
8 COMPANIES THAT FIRED THEIR EMPLOYEES:
1. NASDAQ
The New York-based stock exchanged fired a Sustainability & Climate Senior Advisor, Lisa Schmidt, after she made a social media post that the company claimed very clearly violated their policy. NASDAQ has a zero-tolerance stance on any commentary that condones or celebrates violence. The alleged comment said "interrupting the euro trip content to say f*ck charlie kirk" and "rest in piss".
2. BROAD INSTITUTE
This is a very prestigious biomedical research center in Massachusetts, and they're tied to Harvard and MIT. They've fired an employee for a "deeply offensive" social media comment about Kirk's murder. The alleged comment was from Natan Pirete Gadens in which they posted, "Can someone send me the video of Charlie Kirk being shot and his blood gushing out of his neck? I need something to brighten my mood next time the bupropion isn't doing enough."
3. PERKINS COIE
A Seattle-based law firm fired a lower who criticized Kirk's death on social media. Perkins Coie said the comments do not reflect the firm's values and were unacceptable. The post read "Charlie Kirk got famous as one of America's leading spreaders of hatred, misinformation, and intolerance. The current political moment -- where an extremist Supreme Court and feckless Republican Congress are enabling a Republican President to become a tyrant and building him modern-day Gestapo for assaulting black and brown folks -- is a result of Charlie Kirk's "contributions" to American media and politics.Charlie Kirk got famous as one of America's leading spreaders of hatred, misinformation, and intolerance. The current political moment -- where an extremist Supreme Court and feckless Republican Congress are enabling a Republican President to become a tyrant and building him modern-day Gestapo for assaulting black and brown folks -- is a result of Charlie Kirk's "contributions" to American media and politics.That said, no one in this country should be murdered for their political speech. Wishing comfort to his wife and children in this difficult time.Maybe this will be the event that gets MAGA to be serious about gun control. Dead school children haven't been enough."
4. OFFICE DEPOT
An Office Depot in Michigan, had an employee caught on video refusing to print posters for a Charlie Kirk vigil. The employees said “Yeah, so, we don’t print propaganda... It’s propaganda. I’m sorry. We don’t print that here.” The company reviewed the incident, fired the worker, and reached out to the customer to make things right.
5. JOE BURROW FOUNDATION
Just two days after Kirk's assassination, NFL quarterback, Joe Burrow's nonprofit announced they had removed an advisory board member. This board member was identified as a COUNTY JUDGE, Ted Berry. Berry posted his comments to facebook: "he spewed hate & division. How's he feel about gun violence & gun control in Hell, now?"
6. MSNBC
A political analyst, Matthew Dowd was fired from MSNBC for his commentary on live TV where he implied Kirk's words and actions created the environment for his own assassination. "Hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions...You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and then not expect awful actions to take place.”
Dowd then stupidly speculated about the circumstances of the assassination, saying: “We don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration. So we have no idea about this.”
7. CAROLINA PANTHERS
The NFL Team fired a man named Charlie Rock, a communications department employee after he mocked Kirk's assassination on social media. These posts included dismissive comments and a Wu-Tang Clan song reference. "Why are yall sad? Your man said it was worth it..." He then posted a screenshot of the song "Protect Ya Neck" by Wu-Tang Clan.
8. WEST ADA SCHOOL DISTRICT
Hitting closer to home, this time in Idaho. the district terminated a Meridian High School cheerleading Coach, Annika Rutz. Rutz allegedly posted a video celebrating Kirk's death. Rutz had just graduated from the same high school the year prior. "I'm not saying I wish death upon someone, but that's what I'm f*cking saying for this motherf*ckin, piece off-sh*t, I hope he's dead, is that going to get me arrested?" to which she sarcastically adds, "I hope he's not dead, pray for Charlie Kirk."
