DJ’s Super Honest Food Review: Domino’s Loaded Cheddar Bacon Tots
Domino's Pizza has a BRAND NEW ITEM that looks absolutely delicious: Loaded Tots!
They have 3 different flavors:
- Cheddar Bacon Loaded Tots
- Philly Cheesesteak Loaded Tots
- Melty 3-Cheese Loaded Tots
Today I tried the CHEDDAR BACON LOADED TOTS!
This was apart of their MIX & MATCH DEAL:
Your choice of at least 2 items for $6.99 each.
THE FOOD:
I ordered the Cheddar Bacon Loaded Tots and Medium Pepperoni & Sausage Pizza with Garlic Parmesan Sauce instead of Marinara.
Cheddar Bacon Loaded Tots:
VERY GOOD! I love tots! It has a Garlic Parmesan Sauce drizzled over the top. They were KILLER! SO GOOD! 9/10.
Medium Pepperoni & Sausage Pizza with White Sauce:
It was alright. Not the best pizza I've ever had. Just kind of... average. 5/10.
Likelihood of going back:
8/10. I'll definitely go back for the loaded tots! The pizza... I could live without.
DJ's Super Honest Food Review: Larsen's Frostop Drive-In - Southern Utah
Larsen's Frostop Drive-In has been a staple in St. George for close to 60 years! It was also MY FAVORITE restaurant growing up!
A little while ago, Frostop closed it's doors, for what we thought, was FOREVER! But that nightmare soon ended, and Larsen's Frostop was back up and running under new ownership!
Last week, I received word that Frostop had let go of a fan favorite... The Piccadilly Chips! It was confirmed by numerous people, but after a few days, the General Manager of Frostop got in contact with me. He informed me that the rumors were wrong, and the Piccadilly Chips were STILL on the menu.
However... I was still hit up from people that told me Frostop wasn't very good anymore. That the quality of the food had gone down. Today... I tried them out to get some REAL ANSWERS! Here are those answers:
THE MENU:
Right off the bat, I noticed the HIGH PRICES on the items. After going to Frostop for 30+ years, I'd never seen the prices so high. Inflation has hit EVERYONE, but it still felt VERY high. There used to be a deal on a kid's meal that was Two Grilled Cheese & Fries/Piccadilly Chips for $3.99. Or Two Corndogs & Fries/Piccadilly Chips for $3.99. Or One of each. The new Kid's Meals are ALMOST DOUBLE the price for less food. That was pretty disheartening to see.
THE FOOD:
I ordered the Queen Burger (Bacon Cheeseburger), Piccadilly Chips, and Pepsi, a pretty average meal... The price SHOCKED me! It was nearly $17.00! WHOA! That's more than I would've paid nearly ANYWHERE in town.
The burger was definitely a bit bigger than it used to be, but it was different FOR SURE! The Piccadilly Chips were the same, but the Fry Sauce was definitely different. It wasn't a 50/50 ratio of ketchup and mayo. There may have been some seasoning, or maybe a little barbecue sauce. SOMETHING was different.
THE REVIEW:
The Queen Burger was good! It tasted similar, but not exactly the same. Piccadilly Chips were pretty much the same though. It was pretty good, all-in-all.
8/10!
I can't get past the price though. Nearly $17 for a drive-in burger and fried potatoes, with a drink...? Too rich for me, unfortunately. If I were to take someone else with me, we're looking at AT LEAST $35 for quick Drive-In food. I just can't.
LIKELIHOOD OF GOING BACK:
Unfortunately the price of this food would keep me from going back for more.
2/10.
DJ's Super Honest Food Review: Bella Marie's Pizzeria
After searching for Southern Utah's BEST Pizza on Yelp, the #1 ranked place was a place called Bella Marie's Pizzeria! Now, I had tried Bella Marie's Pizzeria on their old location on DIxie Drive YEARS AGO! But they have since moved to a much bigger, more centrally located spot on 700 South by Honolulu Grill.
This was my 3rd attempt at trying Bella Marie's and we FINALLY got in! The first try was on a Friday night with an HOUR WAIT! I didn't want to wait an hour, so I went back on Monday... They're not open Mondays!
Yesterday, we got there around 5pm and were taken to a table RIGHT AWAY! The waiter told us all about the place since it was our first time. He explained that they do REAL New York Style, Thin-Crust, Wood Fired Pizza... MY FAVORITE!
THE VIBES:
The inside was clean and felt a little Italian. It didn't feel like a dirty pizzeria.
As always, I had my buddy, Brayden with me for this review.
THE FOOD:
I ordered the Medium Pepperoni Pizza. A safe choice, but also my favorite!
Brayden ordered the Bacon Chicken Ranch. It threw us off a little bit because usually it's Called CHICKEN Bacon Ranch, but they do things different at Bella Marie's.
The Pepperoni pizza folded well and stayed intact. While the Bacon Chicken Ranch had A LOT of weight on top of the crust.
THE REVIEW:
DJ: The Pepperoni Pizza was great. Classic. I put parmesan on it and dipped a little in some ranch. Pretty Solid Pizza!
Brayden: The Bacon Chicken Ranch was FANTASTIC! Easily the BEST PIZZA in Southern Utah!
PIZZA SCORE:
DJ: 7/10
Brayden: 9/10
SERVICE:
DJ: 8/10
Brayden: 8/10
LIKELIHOOD OF GOING BACK:
DJ: 7/10
Brayden: 10/10
DJ's Super Honest Food Review: Island Grinds
Who's in the mood for some TRADITIONAL HAWAIIAN CUISINE?
It's time for Island Grinds. They're located at 1973 W Sunset Blvd in St. George next to Little Caesars, near the Albertson's grocery store!
THE VIBES:
Walking inside, the restaurant was clean and simple with island music playing back in the kitchen. My friend and I got there at around 6:15 and there was hardly ANYBODY inside the restaurant. No wait to order!
You order at the front, find a table, and when your food is ready they'll shout out your name. It's a very chill, laid back environment!
THE ORDER:
Both, Brayden and myself ordered the same meal: Teriyaki Beef-Regular Plate. The meal includes teriyaki beef, two scoops of white rice, and a scoop of macaroni salad, with a couple little containers of teriyaki sauce.
Brayden doesn't like the macaroni salad, so he gets 3 scoops of white rice.
I LOVE the macaroni salad, so I order an extra side of it!
I like to drench my teriyaki beef in MORE teriyaki sauce, and I smother both scoops of rice in the teriyaki sauce.
THE REVIEW:
DJ: The teriyaki beef was tender, and full of flavor. I like it best with lots of teriyaki sauce dripping off it (It's a very thin, runny teriyaki sauce). It's the star of the meal, but the white rice is AWESOME with the sauce on it. Without the sauce, it's a little dry and would be hard to swallow. The Macaroni salad is SO GOOD, and again... Tastes a little better with Teriyaki sauce! 8/10
Brayden: I'm not a fan of their Mac Salad, so I went with 3 scoops of rice instead of 2 with Mac Salad. The beef was good and flavorful, but had some fat. Rice was good, but rice is rice. Hard to mess up. 8/10.
Likelihood of going back:
DJ: I think this is the BEST Hawaiian food in Southern Utah. Better than Honolulu Grill, and Mo Bettah's. The Mac Salad doesn't have big hunks of carrots in it. 10/10.
Brayden: I don't think it's better than Mo Bettah's or Honolulu Grill. 7/10.
What do you think? Is it the best Hawaiian Food in Southern Utah?
DJ's Super Honest Food Review: CUPBOP!
Friday night, I went out to a restaurant that many people don't know about: CUPBOP!
They're located next to Albertson's in Washington behind Hart's Gas Station.
Cupbop is a Utah-based Korean BBQ restaurant with over 140 locations worldwide now! They've also been featured on Shark Tank where they reached a deal with Mark Cuban for $1,000,000 for 5% equity!
THE VIBES:
Walking in on a Friday night, it was pretty empty! I was really surprised. The employees were working on online orders but got to us right away. The staff was friendly, but the staff in the back was a little rough around the edges. Maybe not the most appropriate conversations and words coming out of the kitchen. I didn't mind much, but a young conservative family would have probably not liked the words coming from the kitchen. But the restaurant was clean, and the signage was bright and fun!
Cupbop is somewhat a competitor with Panda Express... But WAY BETTER, in my opinion! Cupbop can be SPICY if you want it, they give you the choice of sauce on every bowl (Scale 1-10)
SPICE LEVELS:
REMEMBER: When you get your food, it has a lid on it. You need to SHAKE YOUR FOOD UP before enjoying. Get all the sauces and foods mixed together.
THE FOOD:
I went with my friend Brayden. He ordered The Combo Bop: Rice, Noodles, and two choices of proteins or veggies ($10.95). They load the bowl with steamed rice, and potato noodles (sounds weird, but they're awesome!), BBQ Spicy Pork, Korean Style Tangy Fried Chicken, then your choice of sauce (spice). He ordered the Level-4 sauce with it.
He also ordered a side of Mandoo: 3 Deep-fried potstickers ($2.75).
When It was my turn to order, I went with The Combo Bop as well. But with mine, I went with BBQ Spicy Pork, and BBQ Beef. ($10.95) Like Brayden, I also got the Mandoo. I love a potsticker! ($2.75)
THE REVIEW:
We started with the Mandoo (Potstickers). AWESOME. Crunchy! Delicious. I only wish they would have given me something to dip them in. Like a soy sauce or teriyaki sauce. 8/10!
Brayden's Combo Bop:
"That was good! Sweet, Spicy, a lot of food! 10/10!"
DJ's Combo Bop:
SO DELICIOUS! TONS OF FOOD! Almost hurt my stomach eating all of it. I'm totally full. The Level-4 spice was pretty dang spicy! My nose was running. But It was awesome! 9.5/10. But I really don't know what would make it a 10/10. Maybe a little bigger bowl to contain everything better?
Likelihood of going back:
Brayden: 10/10
DJ: 10/10
YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE!
DJ's Super Honest Food Review: Soul Ramen & Noodles
Friday night, I went out to try a BRAND NEW RESTAURANT: Soul Ramen & Noodles.
They're located at 1480 S River Road INSIDE 8 Moons Thai & Sushi, right by Popeyes!
You walk in and they LITERALLY ask you if you want Thai or Ramen, then direct you to the right half or left half of the restaurant. Kinda weird... But whatever!
Right as I walked in and sat down I couldn't help but notice how many people were in the building for dinner! It was pretty busy, and I wasn't expecting it to be.
I ordered the Shoyu Ramen - Chicken broth with wavy noodles, green onions, marinated soft egg, with corn. HOT spice level. ($9.99)
My friend, Brayden ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen - House favorite, rich pork and chicken broth with house blend of chili, garlic ginger and shoyu base with wavy noodles and soft boiled egg and braised pork belly. MILD spice level. ($9.99)
He also ordered the BBQ Chashu Bun as an appetizer. That's a soft steamed bun with braised pork, cucumber, onion, drizzled with BBQ sauce. ($4.99)
FOOD REVIEW:
My Shoyu Ramen was supposed to be HOT and I think they forgot to put the spice in. It had absolutely no spice to it at all. But it was still good. I instantly knew the portion wasn't big enough though. I thought I'd still be hungry afterward. Noodles were good. Not too soft and mushy. 6/10
Braydens Appetizer, BBQ Chashu Bun showed up at the table and instantly threw us off with the look of it. It looks like raw dough and it was cold. But maybe that's the way it's supposed to be! But then we realized it was a STEAMED bun, so that made sense. "Bread was strange. But, Overall it tasted very fresh. I liked it." 6/10.
Brayden's Tonkotsu Ramen was a smaller portion like mine, and he didn't like the egg. The flavor wasn't very good. 4/10.
Another thing that was kind of strange... We were given plastic cups, like Walmart cups... But everyone else in the building had glass looking/plastic cups. See Below.
Our total came out to $27.85 for 2 people and an appetizer. Not bad for someone to go to for a date night.
OVERALL:
DJ: The service was pretty good. The staff was nice and friendly. I would definitely give them another chance, I'm a BIG fan of ramen! I want to try the HOT level for sure. Likelihood to go back: 8/10.
Brayden: He's not a fan of ramen already, and wasn't crazy about any of the flavors. But agreed the staff was friendly, and the service was good.
Likelihood to go back: 2/10.
