Houston Hot Chicken is a brand new chicken restaurant in town with some of the coolest vibes, nicest employees, and some of the best chicken in town! I was invited to a special event last weekend where I was able to sample some of the food.

Here is my SUPER HONEST Food Review of Houston Hot Chicken in St. George:

This place has great vibes. The employees are nice, the art work inside is interest, unique and cool, and the seating isn't cramped. You can sit at tables, picnic tables style tables, and also some bench seating.

FOOD:

I ordered the Three Tenders & Fries, Two Slushy Lemonades, and a Waffle Shake.

TENDERS & FRIES:

These tenders are BIG BOYS. They're juicy, thick, and really good! On the Chicken Tenders, you order them with a specific spice that you want. These spices also have Scoville Unit scores attached. The Scoville scale ranges with SPICIER items carrying a higher number on the scale.. The spices that they offer are:

  • No Spice (0 Scoville Heat Score)
  • Honey Butter (0 Scoville Heat Score)
  • Mild (10,000 Scoville Heat Score)
  • Medium (30,000 Scoville Heat Score)
  • Spicy (150,000 Scoville Heat Score)
  • Liftoff (600,000 Scoville Heat Score)
  • Houston We Have A Problem (2,000,000 Scoville Heat Score) (SignedWaiver Required To Eat)

I have the mouth of a 3 year old girl. I'm not great with spice... I ordered the Honey Butter (SO DELICIOUS). With the Tenders comes Crinkle Cut Fries (My least favorite fry ever), pickles, and two sides of their House Sauce. Their House Sauce has a sweetness, but also a bit of a kick of heat. THAT ALONE was enough spice for me, that I needed water close by. These Crinkle Cut Fries are spiced and SERIOUSLY AMAZING. These fries might even be better than the tenders, and that's really saying something! I dipped the fries and chicken into their House Sauce and it was awesome! Definitely recommend.

SLUSHY LEMONADE:

I got two of the house-made lemonades. You can get them as normal lemonades or Slushy. I got both as Slushy. They have different flavors on these lemonades as well.

  • Cucumber Watermelon
  • Strawberry Hibiscus
  • Blueberry Lavender

I got the Strawberry Hibiscus and the Blueberry Lavender. Both lemonades were good, but I was a BIG FAN of the Strawberry Hibiscus. I liked this one a lot.

BURNED MY MOUTH OFF:

I also got to try a chicken tender with the "SPICY" level spice on it. Again, like I mentioned before... I can't handle heat. I have the mouth of a 3-year old girl. I took the TINIEST BITE of this and it was so spicy it almost ruined my entire night! Okay, maybe not that far, but I COULD NOT BELIEVE how spicy this really was. The heat stayed in my mouth for like 20 minutes, and I needed something to kill the heat... And I found it.

WAFFLE SHAKE:

This shake looks amazing, right? It's vanilla ice cream with syrup and actual pieces of waffle right inside of it! With how incredible it looked, I wanted it... But that quickly turned into I NEEDED IT to combat the spice going on in my mouth. A Milkshake should help... right? Indeed, it did help. But it was so delicious. The vanilla ice cream and syrup was so good, but also so messy, and the waffle pieces were soft and perfect.

The employees were nice and very welcoming at HHC. They were always checking to see if we were enjoying the food and if we needed anything.

Houston Hot Chicken has been open to the public since Sunday. I'm writing this Tuesday, and I've already been to the restaurant three times, and eaten there twice. I will definitely be back a third time. Whether you can handle heat or not, you should give HHC a try before bashing them about being "Another Chicken Restaurant" in town. These guys are going to be here for a while.

I am SUCH a sucker for burgers! They're probably my favorite food, or at least close to it! I've seen this place a few times, and always been curious about their food: Wayback Burgers. They're located on Dino Crossing in the Smith's Parking Lot in the same building where Chronic Tacos was. Tonight, I went with my friend Brayden... Here is our review:

My Order:

I ordered the Double Bacon Cheeseburger and Full French Fries. The "Full" means large. I also ordered the Cinnamon Toast Crunch shake! This burger was SO GOOD! I was a huge fan. It was juicy, fresh, and delicious. The fries were great too! They resembled Wendy's French Fries, but more fresh and more firm and crisp than a Wendy's fry. They were delicious with their fry sauce!

After the burger and fries, I ordered the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Shake. The shake was pretty good. It wasn't the most incredible shake I've ever had in my life, but it was good!

Burger Score: 8/10.
Fries Score: 8/10.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch Shake: 7/10.

Brayden ordered the Southwest Cheeseburger. That is a double cheeseburger with Pepper Jack cheese, Chili, and Fritos. He also ordered the Chili Cheese Tots, and the Brownie Shake. Brayden loved the Burger, but he felt the Chili Cheese Tots didn't live up to his expectations. He also felt that the Brownie Shake didn't live up to his expectations either.

Burger Score: 8/10.
Chili Cheese Tots: 7/10.
Brownie Shake: 7/10.

The Service:

The Service was GREAT! They're younger kids working, either high school or post-high school age. This isn't a "waiter or waitress" style restaurant, but the employees delivered the food to us and kept checking to make sure we were doing well, and even offered to get us sauces from their sauce bar. The Managers and owners of Wayback Burgers should be proud of their employees. They gave a really great experience.

Likelihood of Going Back: 10/10.

DJ's Super Honest Food Review: Super Chix

Today I tried a place I've driven past for years but never tried... Super Chix. It's located next to Starbucks on Red Cliffs Drive. Its where the old Smashburger used to be. I tried Super Chix after Levi Hansen told me on St. George Word of Mouth that I needed to try it!

THE VIBES:

attachment-IMG_9526

I walked in and the place was clean, good looking with all the yellow and black, and was NOT packed. The employee, who I assume was the manager was nice. He took my order and did something I REALLY liked... When I went to pay he told me "Hit that green button and bypass the tip option." THANK YOU! It feels like EVERYWHERE I go pressures me for a tip. I ordered the food to go and he offered me a water cup while I was waiting. I took the water cup and decided to stay and dine in the restaurant.

THE ORDER:

I ordered the 4 Piece chicken tenders and regular fries. My total was a little pricey at $16, but I wanted to taste the quality of food first. But regardless, $16 for 4 chicken tenders and a regular French fry is definitely on the more expensive end.

attachment-IMG_9529

Then... I saw they had a SAUCE BAR! YES! I was able to completely help myself, and didn't have to ask the employees for more sauce, which I liked. They had TONS of sauces:

  • Ketchup
  • Fry Sauce
  • Honey Mustard
  • Buttermilk Ranch
  • BBQ Sauce
  • Korean BBQ
  • Signature Sauce
  • Nashville Hot Sauce
  • attachment-IMG_9530

I got one of each (besides ketchup) and tried to chicken with every sauce. But first... The chicken.

    THE REVIEW:

The chicken was plump, juicy, and fully cooked. I'm weird about chicken, so I was nervous at how they cooked it, but it came out PERFECT! I eat chicken tenders with a fork and knife, and they were SO DELICIOUS. I tried the chicken with every sauce, like I said earlier, and here's how I rank the sauces...

    attachment-IMG_9538

  • Honey Mustard - It was a solid honey mustard. Tangy, delicious, safe! Really good! 9/10.
  • Signature Sauce - It was SO CLOSE to being #1, but it got edged out. It tastes a LITTLE bit like the McDonald's Big Mac Sauce, but it really goes well with their chicken! 9/10
  • Buffalo - It was a good buffalo sauce. It definitely had some kick, but not too much. It was a good mix. Definitely an above-average buffalo sauce. 8/10.
  • Ranch - It was a safe bet on the ranch. I wanted it to be better, because ranch is usually my go-to with chicken, but it was just OKAY ranch. 7/10.
  • Nashville Hot - The flavor of this was really good, but I have the mouth of an 8 year old girl. It was SO SPICY. I could only have so much, which sucked, because I loved the flavor of it! 7/10.
  • BBQ - This was really just a normal-ish, boring BBQ sauce. If you're into BBQ sauce and chicken tenders, you'll still enjoy it. But it didn't feel too special to me. 6/10.
  • Korean BBQ
    attachment-sauces

The fries were interesting. You can season the fries with Salt, Sweet, Cajun, or Rosemary Pepper. I went with salt. The fries were DEFINITELY better when they were hot, once they cooled down, I didn't love them very much. But what I especially loved was they PILED the fries into the bag. I mean ABSOLUTELY LOADED me up with fries. Nobody does that! But they did, and it was AWESOME!

I think this might be our BEST chicken restaurant in town, truthfully. Super Chix was GREAT!

    FOOD: 9/10

    LIKELIHOOD OF GOING BACK: 10/10

One last thing I wanted to add here. The employee (I assume the manager) was really great. I watched him get out and clean. He was picking up trash, cleaning up the Sauce Bar, and tidying everything up. I could also hear him urge his team to have a little bit more hustle with the orders. "Hey guys, I need those tenders!" He wasn't rude, but he was making sure everyone wasn't waiting too long for their food. I thought he was great, and the owners of the restaurant should know!
