Falling Boulders Block New Roadway in Southern Utah!
Look out Southern Utah! With a lot of new construction, there are roads that haven't settled in quite yet. This particular road is off the Toquerville exit off I-15, heading into LaVerkin, Utah. Crews blasted through the mountain to make another through road to alleviate some congestion that is starting to pile up in the area.
After blasting through the mountain, crews leveled and grated the area and then paved a road. No one thought that the mountain would continue to crumble away. Several rock slides have occurred leaving the roadway full of debris.
The road was not open yet but progress has been halted by the huge boulders that have fallen into the road. These are a lot bigger than they look in the pics.
The largest boulder stands much higher than the road sign which is around 4.5 feet tall. While trying to find out info about this road, I discovered that I am not a good investigative reporter....
There are several things that can be done to sure up the sides of the mountain pass. I just hope that there is another freeway exit coming to the area to help with the flow of traffic that will soon be a problem for the rapidly growing area.
It is estimated that Utahns lost over $55 million in financial scams in 2023. Among the scams reported to the Federal Trade Commission, the most commonly reported scams were 'imposter scams,' or those pretending to be your bank's or credit card's fraud department.
4.6 million reports of 'imposter scams' were reported last year and Utahns are reeling from the loss, but what can you do? Here are a list of things that should alert you of a possible scam:
1. False sense of urgency. Your financial institution and credit card agencies usually put things on hold until you can be contacted. Scammers like to make you think that all will be lost if you don't jump through their hoops right now. You have time to double check where the info is coming from and if it is legit.
2. Links sent through text message. Do not click through to a website from a text. Check the validity of a website by doing a search for the website on a search engine yourself.
3. Asking personal information through a text or email. Do not give any personal information through a text or an email. Also before you answer any questions over the phone make sure that you call the verified phone number given to you on an invoice or verified website that you looked up yourself.
If you have been scammed, it is important to file a report with the FTC. You can do that here: ReportFraud.ftc.gov or by calling 877-382-4357.
It's springtime and it is starting to warm up nicely in Southern Utah. Everything blooming is causing allergies and now some early birds think that 6:30am is a great time to get outside and mow their lawns......I assure you IT IS NOT!
In general in Cedar City, the noise regulation prohibits loud noise at night between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. The regulation also sets limits for extremely loud noise during daytime hours. You can see more info click here:➡ Cedar City Utah
In St George, the amended ordinance will limit nighttime noise levels between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. Sound is limited to 50 A-weighted decibels (dBA), which is comparable to a quiet conversation. Find out more here: ➡ STG
You hear that neighbors? NOTHING BEFORE 7AM And if you want to be a REALLY great neighbor, you will wit till at least 8am. I need at least one day a week that I get to sleep in. It's a NEED.
I am very lucky that I live in a place where my neighbors are at least a couple of acers away, but I remember living in downtown St. George, just a block south of the Temple and I had not 1 but 2 neighbors that wanted to do all of their yardwork between 6-8am.
Obviously in mid-summer between those times is when you will survive while doing a little yardwork without sweating to death. But might I suggest zero-scaping. You can even get rebates for doing so! Check out the details here:➡ Water Efficient Landscaping
If you have great neighbors, go tell them THANK YOU! If you don't, Be nice. Kindness will definitely go further than complaining.
