...fresh-made fry sauce! Here me out! This Utah classic, typically a blend of ketchup, mayonnaise, and a few secret ingredients, (I like to add pickle juice or BBQ sauce) could be the perfect dipping sauce for turkey, roasted veggies, or even a unique twist on leftover turkey sandwiches.

It’s sounds ridiculous, but it could be a fun addition and sometimes it's fun to mix things up. Here are some strange but intriguing ideas of how fry sauce could over take your Thanksgiving table:

  1. Turkey Dipping Sauce: Serve fry sauce as a creamy, tangy dipping sauce for turkey slices. The contrast with roasted turkey’s savory flavor can be a fun, flavorful addition. My kids have already incorporated this tip. Your kids might love this.
  2. Potato Pairing: Mix fry sauce with mashed potatoes for a creamy and slightly tangy alternative to traditional gravy. You could also drizzle it over roasted or baked potatoes for a fresh take. I know it was made for French fries but it seems like it would ruin my delicious mashed potatoes.
  3. Veggie Platter Boost: Use fry sauce as a dip for fresh veggies on your Thanksgiving appetizer platter. It’s a crowd-pleasing twist on the usual ranch or hummus. I might try it.
  4. Leftover Sandwich Spread: Fry sauce makes a fantastic spread for turkey and cranberry sandwiches the next day, adding a rich, creamy layer to leftover flavors.
  5. Fry Sauce Deviled Eggs: For a fun twist, add a dollop of fry sauce to your deviled egg filling, or use it as a garnish. It pairs well with the creamy, slightly acidic egg filling.

There might not be an official poll on exactly how many Utahns are fry sauce fanatics, but let’s just say it’s basically a given. I would guess 65% to 75% of Utahns say they use it and enjoy it. This simple, creamy blend of ketchup and mayo has become such a Utah classic that you’ll find it at almost every fast-food joint and burger spot in the state. It’s even started to pop up in nearby states, but Utah will forever claim it as it's own. Fry sauce is practically part of the local identity, with restaurants keeping it on tap for locals who just can’t get enough!

Fry sauce, a beloved condiment in Utah, was popularized in the 1940s by Don Carlos Edwards, founder of the Utah-based restaurant chain Arctic Circle. Edwards is credited with combining ketchup and mayonnaise to create a signature dipping sauce that quickly became a favorite across the state. Originally intended as a complement for fries, the sauce took over the western world like Ranch dressing did, and it’s now enjoyed with everything from burgers to chicken. Today, fry sauce is still Utah’s tasty claim to fame, proving the state knows how to keep things simple but packed with flavor.
