You may not know Dave and I are brothers. You also may not know that Dave has written a 3 book fantasy series called “The Demon Curse” about demons and how they interact with the human world. One demon has been prophesied to come, could this be the one?

Now, Dave may or may not know that I am posting a portion of the book per week, like the installments writers used to do. I will post this weekly (until I get caught) so without further introduction I give you the third installment of The Demon Curse Series Book #1 “Son of Ruin” written by David E. Hiatt.

Chapter 1 The Summoning Installment 3

The Ten danced below and Asag again gestures to the cauldron and whispers the name “Succubus.”

Suddenly, a deep clang bursts out from the sides of the pot, ringing through the heated air. The large cauldron rocks side to side and the ancient metal strains with the pressure. The Ten stumble and fall back, stunned at the violence to the vessel. Those of the horde nearest to the cauldron also step back a pace in surprise.

At the sound, Hellion turns his massive head. From his perch on the rock face, he can see two red hands reach up from the dark liquid and grasp onto each side of the cast iron rim. Slowly a round, red demon head arises from the opening.

Unlike the other yearling who tumbled from the cauldron, naked, whimpering and looking lost, this one appears already well formed, his eyes intelligent with big wide shoulders and long arms rippling with muscles. Smiling, he stares down at his kindred.

The horde has never witnessed such a thing in all the numberless Summoning's. The boldness of the yearling brings to their minds an ancient prophecy engraved on a stone in the Cave of the Dead. This prophecy is known by every demon, as it predicts the end of their incarceration in this burning world.

The demons whisper, “Is it him? Is this the one who ends our imprisonment?”

The yearling, Succubus, standing waist deep in the boiling, demon blood, leans his head back and roars.

High above, in his cave on the cliff, Hellion hears the brute bellow and watches him stare down the horde. A slight smile creases his cracked lips. He blinks once, rolls to his side, his back to the cave entrance, and dies.

There you have it. The third piece of the book. Let me know if you enjoyed this, want more, or anything else I can do to make it easier to read.
