Each State’s Rank When You Look at NFL Players Per Capita

When you think of places in the United States that love football, you may not have Utah high on the list. We do love football, but we don’t have the massive high school stadiums like Texas. Before you go much further, check out this chart posted by MaxPreps.

They looked at the top states that produce NFL Players per capita and at number 9 is the beehive state. That’s right. Utah is high on the list of states producing pro players and Texas is somewhere below the top ten.

The States at the Top and Those Not Listed

As you would expect, the states at the top are mostly from the South. Georgia is number with Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi moving down. These states are producing almost double the NFL players per 100,000 as compared to Utah.

Notably, California and Texas didn’t make the top 10. Even though there are many NFL players from these states, it is apparently because of their massive populations rather than having a multitude of amazing athletes.

It is interesting that Utah is the only state in the west, and besides Hawaii, a real outlier for producing football talent. I would like them to delve into this deeper. What is it about the Utah population that makes for NFL players?

It's interesting how many on the list don't have an NFL team. Of course, with the current NIL deals being thrown around, I guess you could count some of Utah's college teams as pro.
