We have all experienced that one passenger who makes a flight unbearable. Utah seems like it is full of nice people, but in a survey of States with the rudest passengers, the beehive didn't show so well.

Utah High on the List of States with the Rudest Passengers

A survey reported in Reader's Digest on how states do for rude airline behavior, Utah was high at number nine. Iowa leads the rudest followed by Illinois and Virginia. How did this happen? Why are Utahns so rude?

The survey says Iowans talk on their phone too loud and recline their seats and possibly don't always wear shoes.

I could see Utahns being guilty of talking on the phone and reclining. Hopefully we keep our shoes on although our kids might be guilty. We probably do better with not drinking too much but we might ask to change seats more than others.

Just so you know, three southern states are the least rude. Arkansas is home for the best behavior followed by Alabama and Florida. Apparently those southern manners show up on the plane.

Most Sited Rude Passenger Problems

Some of the most contentious issues involve reclining seats. While airplane seats are designed to recline, doing so infringes on the limited space of the passenger seated behind.

If the person behind has a laptop out or a beverage, shifting a seat back can be even more problematic. Most passengers would likely prefer that, on shorter flights, others keep their seats upright for the duration of the flight.

Who Gets the Arm Rest?

Then there’s the dreaded middle seat and the battle for armrests. Jetsettimes.com states:

Middle seats get the armrests. This is the unspoken rule of the sky. If you are seated in an aisle or window seat, give your armrest to your seat partner stuck in the middle. This gesture goes a long way in helping your fellow passengers have a pleasant flight.

Additionally, be mindful of personal space by keeping your feet within your seating area and avoiding strong-smelling foods like fish, which can make the flight unpleasant for everyone.
