Unusual Way To Find Dinosaur Bones in Utah Seems Silly
Some places in Utah have many dinosaur bones near the surface and are relatively easy to find. You might discover a small chip that looks like a white rock. Here’s a simple trick to determine if you have found a bone or a stone.
How Do the Rocks Taste?
Dinosaur bones and other bone fossils have tiny pours in the surface. Because of this, when you put it to your tongue it will stick. A regular rock will do what you expect, just slide off. This is an easy way for paleontologists to determine if they have found a bone fossil.
So, what do you do if you find a big bone and don’t want to get down and lick the ground? Unless you are a toddler, putting something from the dirt in your mouth isn't something you want to do. You can also wet your finger and see if it sticks to the bone.
