Local Hospital Earns National Praise For 11 Years Straight
For the 11th consecutive year, Intermountain Health Cedar City Hospital has been recognized as one of the Top 20 Rural and Community Hospitals in the nation by the National Rural Health Association, a distinction that underscores the facility’s continued commitment to high-quality care in southern Utah.
The honor, announced by the NRHA and based on an evaluation conducted by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, places the Cedar City hospital in an elite category. Notably, it is the only hospital in the country to receive the recognition every year since the award’s inception, marking a milestone achievement in rural healthcare.
Results and Stewardship Contribute To Rankings
Hospitals selected for the Top 20 list are evaluated using the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX, a comprehensive tool designed to assess performance across multiple areas. These include quality of care, patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, affordability, and overall financial health. The ranking highlights facilities that not only deliver strong clinical results but also demonstrate responsible stewardship of resources.
“Being named one of the nation’s Top 20 Rural and Community Hospitals by the NRHA for the 11th consecutive time is an extraordinary honor, and to be the only hospital to achieve that milestone is deeply meaningful to our caregivers and to the community we are proud to serve,” said Jamison Robinett, president of Intermountain Health Cedar City Hospital, in a press release. “Rural communities need the same level of excellence in care close to home and this award affirms our dedication to delivering safe, affordable, and patient-centered care.”

Dr. Jarid Gray, chief medical officer at the hospital, also emphasized the importance of the recognition, noting in the same press release that it reflects the dedication of healthcare providers serving Iron County and surrounding areas, as well as a long-standing commitment to compassionate, high-quality care.
The Chartis Center evaluates rural and critical access hospitals nationwide using publicly available data, with a focus on market performance, value-based outcomes, and financial stewardship. This year, Intermountain Health Cedar City Hospital was one of two facilities within Intermountain Health to make the Top 20 list, joined by Intermountain Health Sevier Valley Hospital.

The repeated recognition highlights the critical role rural hospitals play in ensuring access to dependable, high-quality healthcare close to home.
