I Know You Don’t Want To Hear This But….
I can already hear the howling and hissing from people when they read the next sentence, but, as Joe Friday might be inclined to say, it's just the facts, mam. Christmas is three months from today. Let the hate comments begin.
Oh, and by the way, for those of you who smugly say “I've already got my Christmas shopping done,” I might be inclined to put a pox upon you. OK, probably not, but for those of us who don't stop shopping until, oh let's say December 24th, you really make us look bad.
But I'm not writing this to start a stampede to the stores to begin the spending we may all regret next February. And yes, I know some stores have already not so subtly started to remind us that the holidays are coming. No, my purpose today is to invite you to be a part of what I think is one of the most anticipated celebrations that we get to have during the upcoming wintertime festivities.
Before Chr....well, that day, comes November 30th, and it so happens that Saturday in November is the date of the annual Historic Downtown Lighting Ceremony in Cedar City. There will be more about the activities of the day coming out later. For all I know, Santa may still be on vacation. But, the folks putting on the ceremony are looking for a little help.
If you are a dancer, ceremony organizers would like to invite you to be a part of this professional performance. Mic Thompson, an internationally renowned choreographer is once again coming to choreograph the dancers that will be showcased in the ceremony.
Thompson has traveled the world and his talents have been used by clients such as Caesar's Entertainment, Disney, NBC, Fox, and several cruise lines. His work has been seen on Broadway, live stage shows, and he has even worked with Michael Jackson.
Want to be a part of it? Then go to cedarcityut.gov/downtownlighting to learn more and complete an application. Some fine print here. You must be 14 or older, and applications are due by October 19th, which will get here sooner than you think.
I know, it still feels more like summer than Chr....that day. But you can help our celebration here in Cedar City, and show off your talent to the entire community. And who knows? Maybe Santa will put an extra present under the tree for you!
