If you've listened at all to me on the radio, you know I have an affinity for making the trip out to Rachel, Nevada. I was talking with my friend Dave about this on the morning show.

When you mention Rachel to most folks around the country, pretty good bet they wouldn't know much about it. Of course, within the community of UFO enthusiasts, Rachel has gained attention as a hub for them and those curious about extraterrestrial phenomena.

Rachel's main draw is its proximity to Area 51, a top-secret military installation associated with UFO conspiracy theories, has contributed to its fame. Area 51 is known for its alleged connection to UFO sightings, experimental aircraft, and government secrecy. While access to the actual facility is restricted, Rachel has become a gathering place for those interested in UFOs and conspiracy theories surrounding Area 51.

The heart of Rachel is the Little A'Le'Inn, a quirky motel, restaurant, and bar that has become a popular destination for UFO enthusiasts and travelers passing through the area. The establishment features alien-themed decorations, memorabilia, and a welcoming atmosphere for those interested in UFO-related topics. It serves as a gathering point for like-minded individuals to share stories, discuss extraterrestrial encounters, and immerse themselves in the unique culture surrounding Area 51.

When we have traveled out there to broadcast our morning show from the Little A'Le'Inn we have had some fascinating discussions with Pat, the owner of the inn. She has shared stories with us that are amazing and astonishing.

But there's more to the area than aliens, UFO's and Area 51.

Due to its remote location away from major cities and light pollution, Rachel offers excellent opportunities for stargazing. The area is known for its dark skies, making it a favorite spot for astronomers and night sky photographers. The lack of artificial lights allows for a clear view of the stars, planets, and other celestial wonders.

Rachel is surrounded by the vast desert landscapes of southern Nevada. Visitors can enjoy exploring the nearby desert trails, observing desert flora and fauna, and taking in the solitude and natural beauty of the area. The stark, otherworldly landscapes further enhance the sense of being in an extraterrestrial environment.

It is these things, I believe, that draw me to the area.

One night we had gone out there to broadcast the following morning, and on this particular trip my wife was able to accompany me. We were taking a walk in the desert in the evening. The stars were glorious and it was as still and as quiet as could be.

And then it hit me as to why I was attracted to the area. The world is not there. No media – the only way to watch tv is if you have a satellite receiver. You can only pick up long distance AM radio stations that fade in and out through the night. FM signals are virtually non-existent. All the noise of the day was nowhere to be heard.

As always “the world” stands by close ready to remind you it's not too far away. We couldn't help but notice as we were enjoying the stars, that the glow of the Las Vegas sky was visible some 150 miles to the southeast. It was close, but it wasn't there.

So, it's never a problem to me to hop in the vehicle and make the drive out there. It may still be in the world, but to me, it feels out of this world.

Still looking for that alien, however.
