Utah’s favorite cheese in 2025 will come as a shock and maybe even seem a bit farfetched but The Wagyu Shop says it's true.

If you’re lactose intolerant or for some crazy reason hate cheese, then I am sorry to say but this may not resonate with you. However, if you are a cheese lover whether that is in moderate amounts or the kind that scares the Olive Garden workers, then you need to know Utah’s most popular cheese.

A press release from The Wagyu Shop said their team analyzed Google trends and searches related to each state to find out what cheese was the favorite. For the beehive state that cheese is asiago. That’s right. Not parmesan, cheddar or mozzarella but asiago cheese.

Cheese.com said that asiago cheese comes from Italy’s Asiago region made from cow's milk. There are two kinds; fresh asiago (smooth texture) and aged asiago (crumbly). The cheese is very sharp and usually found in sauces, salads and pastas.

Asiago as Utah’s favorite cheese is a bit surprising just because I don’t see it used that often in Southern Utah restaurants that I visit. However, I applaud the beehive state for having such an aged cheese as asiago as its go-to.

Our neighboring states prefer brie (Colorado), Monterey Jack (Arizona) and Munster cheese (New Mexico).

Even if you can’t consume cheese by the pound like many of us wish we could, a favorite cheese tells a lot about the kind of food you will find in the state. Utah absolutely loves its salads and soups. You can always find local or chain restaurants that specialize in them in any Utah town.
