If you're living in Utah or Nevada, there's big news, and it's not great if you're a big Slurpee fan. The world's BIGGEST store chain is shutting down over 440 locations in North America. These closures are hitting the most underperforming stores. But they're still just a tiny little slice of the chain's HUGE global presence. Is your 7-Eleven at risk?

Who’s Behind the Closures?

It's the truth: 7-Eleven, the convenience store GIANT, is turning out the lights on hundreds of stores. However, they've already got 84,000 locations worldwide, and while cutting 440+ stores doesn't seem like much, it's still enough to put Utahns and Nevadans on high alert!

Why the Shutdowns?

According to Seven & I Holdings, the Japan-based parent company, several factors are driving the closures:

  • Declining Cigarette Sales: Tobacco sales, once a convenience store staple, have dropped 26% since 2019.
  • Inflation: Rising costs are hitting businesses everywhere, and 7-Eleven is no exception.
  • Revenue Challenges: Even trendy nicotine pouches can’t keep profits where they used to be.

This isn’t a complete overhaul, though. The company calls it a strategic move to focus on long-term profitability.

What’s Next for Nevada’s 7-Elevens?

If your local 7-Eleven survives, it could be in for a refresh with better amenities and upgraded services. But for now, it might be time to cherish those late-night Big Gulps and taquitos.

Will Nevada escape this retail shake-up? Only time will tell. Stay tuned—and maybe grab an extra Big Bite while you still can!
