We've got some bad news for those DIY lovers, queens of quilting, and scrapbook addicts! One of the biggest craft stores in the nation is closing down hundreds of locations... over 500 to be exact! If you've ever walked into Joann Fabrics for "just one little thing" and left with an entire basket of ribbon, fabric, buttons, and construction paper... this one is going to hurt!

Who is "Right-Sizing"?

Joann Fabrics has been the go-to spot for those that sew, crafters, and anyone who loves a good DIY project. However, now that company has announced that it's closing over 500 stores across 49 states as part of a huge restructuring effort. The reason for this restructuring is because Joann's has filed for bankruptcy... again! This is the second time in less than a year the chain has filed for bankruptcy, so that can't be a good sign! But instead of calling it "downsizing" the company is calling it "right-sizing".

Utah Locations That Are Getting the Axe

Joann Fabrics currently has 14 stores in Utah, and unfortunately a small handful of them will not survive this wave of closures. Here are the 3 unlucky locations that will be closing their doors:

  • Clinton: 1803 West 1800 North
  • Salt Lake City: 2330 East 3000 South
  • Tooele: 852 North Main Street

What This Means for Utah Crafters

  • If your local Joann's is on the chopping block, you can say goodbye to those quick stop ins for your crafting needs.
  • Your other options are... driving further to another location, or start your online shopping and be patient for a few days and PRAY there will be no shipping delays!
  • The BIG silver lining here is that you might possibly be able to score huge deals if your Joann's is closing down. This could mean MASSIVE clearance sales!

So, if your Joann’s is one of the ones closing, you might want to stock up now!
