After YEARS of construction, planning and some pretty careful restoration work, the Salt Lake City LDS Temple is officially moving toward it's long-anticipated reopening in 2027. There will be a public open house that will run from April of 2027 to October of 2027. This announcement marks a major milestone in a renovation project that that totally transformed Temple Square into one of the biggest construction sites to ever hit downtown Salt Lake City.
This renovation has focused on preserving the historic temple, while also strengthening it for future generations. Church officials say that the work is designed to protect the structure for the long run, while also enhancing the visitor experience. This renovation project is serving to highlight the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. For many people in Utah, and visitors from all over the world, the open house will present an incredibly rare opportunity to step inside and explore the temple before it returns to regular use.

The Salt Lake City Temple has a long history. It's original groundbreaking took place back on Valentine's Day 1853. That project took a whopping 40 years to complete before the building was dedicated in 1893. Now, more than 170 years later, that landmark is preparing for its newest chapter.
