Southern Utah: Dangerous Conditions Cause Road Closures Off Of I-15 (Pics)
With the record snow and rainfall Utah is having in January 2023 comes some dangerous conditions. Flooding roadways, structures and homes and creating a muddy mess.
Just off of exit 36 between St George and Cedar City, Utah the road has been closed because of dangerous conditions.
Because of a failing road railing, snow, ice, mud slide and an above average full Ash Creek Reservoir, drivers must take a lengthy detour.
In true southern Utah fashion, you must take a long and windy road all the way around the area to get back to your original destination road. But we have such rad road names and cool terrain, if you're not in a hurry, it is a pleasant drive.
It took even longer than I thought it was going to because of how few roads there are in this area. But my goodness I didn't mind the views on my detour. ♥
So majestic! Our beautiful desert covered in snow is quite the sight. Pine Valley Mountain is in the distance.
As you can barely see in the pic below I've tried to show you where the railing is falling down the mountain. Because of the road closure I couldn't get any closer. (Zoom in on your phone.)
Ash Creek Reservoir is usually drained and mostly dry enough to ride your ATV's around in. This year they may have to keep the water a lot longer to avoid more flooding downstream.
It is so beautiful from a distance but be safe and steer clear until the roads are reinforced and deemed safe. Remind anyone who usually frequents this area that the reservoir is FULL and it is not passable in a vehicle. We need the moisture. Hopefully it comes a little slower for all of our safety.
