Southern Utah Festivals You Need on Your Calendar This Summer & Fall
Festivals Coming Up in Southern Utah This Summer & Fall
Southern Utah doesn’t really do “boring weekends.”
Between hot air balloons floating over red rocks, sheep parades taking over Main Street, Shakespeare under the stars, and enough food festivals to completely destroy your diet plans, there’s a pretty solid chance your calendar is about to get packed.
If you’re looking for reasons to get out of the house this summer and fall, here are some of the biggest and most unique festivals happening around Southern Utah.
Utah Shakespeare Festival – Cedar City
If you’ve never been to the Utah Shakespeare Festival, this is your sign.
Even people who barely survived high school English end up loving this thing. The atmosphere alone is worth it. Cedar City turns into a full-on arts destination during festival season with actors in costume walking around town, outdoor performances, food vendors, and crowds from all over the country.
The festival runs from June through October and features everything from classic Shakespeare plays to modern productions. It’s one of the biggest draws in Southern Utah every year for good reason.
And honestly? Watching live theater outside on a cool summer evening in Cedar City just feels oddly classy. Like you suddenly became cultured overnight.
Utah Summer Games – Cedar City
The Utah Summer Games are basically Southern Utah’s version of the Olympics… except with way more sunscreen and fewer international press conferences.
Thousands of athletes come to Cedar City every June to compete in sports ranging from soccer and softball to pickleball and track events. Even if you’re not competing, the Opening Ceremonies are a huge community event with music, fireworks, athlete parades, and enough energy to make you feel motivated for approximately 12 minutes before going back to eating snacks on the couch.
It’s family-friendly, exciting, and one of the best ways to kick off summer in Southern Utah.
Amazing Earthfest – Kanab
Kanab somehow manages to make learning about nature feel cool.
Amazing Earthfest blends outdoor adventure, art, science, film, music, and conservation into one giant celebration of the Colorado Plateau. There are guided hikes, astronomy events, photography opportunities, presentations, and community gatherings that make you appreciate just how ridiculously beautiful Southern Utah really is.
It’s the kind of festival where you go expecting “a nice weekend” and leave suddenly considering buying hiking boots and becoming a desert photographer.
Sand Hollow Balloon Festival – Hurricane
This one looks like somebody accidentally turned a Windows desktop wallpaper into a real event.
The Sand Hollow Balloon Festival fills the sky with colorful hot air balloons rising over the red cliffs and reservoir at sunrise. There’s also live music, food vendors, balloon glows at night, and activities for families throughout the weekend.
Pro tip:
If you go, get there early. Like painfully early.
If you go, get there early. Like painfully early.
Because yes, waking up before sunrise sounds terrible… until you’re standing there watching dozens of balloons lift into the desert sky and suddenly pretending to be a morning person.
Cedar Livestock & Heritage Festival – Cedar City
If you want pure small-town fall vibes, this is the one.
The Cedar Livestock & Heritage Festival celebrates Cedar City’s agricultural roots with sheep parades, cowboy poetry, ranch rodeos, horse pulls, vintage tractors, quilt shows, Dutch oven contests, and live music.
It somehow manages to feel both nostalgic and wildly entertaining at the same time.
Also, there is something deeply amusing about sitting in traffic because hundreds of sheep are marching through downtown.
That’s not a sentence most cities get to say.
Cedar City Rock & Gem Show
Rock people are passionate people.
And honestly? This festival is way cooler than it sounds.
The Cedar City Rock & Gem Show features crystals, fossils, minerals, jewelry, lapidary art, demonstrations, auctions, family activities, and vendors from all over the region.
Even if you know absolutely nothing about geology, there’s a strong possibility you’ll leave wanting to buy a shiny rock you definitely do not need.
No judgment though. That’s part of the experience.
Dixie Days – St. George
Dixie Days stretches across multiple events through the warmer months and brings together community fairs, rodeos, live entertainment, markets, family activities, and outdoor celebrations across St. George.
It’s one of those classic Southern Utah community traditions where there’s a little bit of everything:
food trucks, local vendors, kids activities, live music, and people somehow surviving outside in triple-digit heat while smiling the entire time.

Honestly impressive.
Why Southern Utah Festival Season Hits Different
There’s just something about festivals in Southern Utah that feels different from bigger city events.
Maybe it’s the red rock backdrops.
Maybe it’s the small-town community feel.
Maybe it’s the fact that half the events somehow include live country music and kettle corn.

Whatever it is, summer and fall are packed with opportunities to explore new places, support local communities, and make memories that don’t involve staring at your phone for six straight hours.
So grab your sunscreen, prepare for some questionable food decisions, and start planning your weekends now.
Because festival season in Southern Utah shows up fast… and somehow disappears even faster.
