St. George Getting A Mascot… Here’s the finalists!
St. George, Utah is LONG OVERDUE for a city mascot, but... that could be changing soon (if it were up to me.)
1. Shirtless Power Walking Guy:
If you've been in St. George for a while, you know EXACTLY who I'm talking about. This guy is always shirtless, and he's power walking through town, plus... VERY TAN from being shirtless in the Southern Utah sun! I have heard from multiple people DO NOT approach him, however. Maybe he's not a people person, but he's my TOP VOTE for St. George mascot!
2. Stephen Wade, himself:
I've seen Steve in town a few times, and it always feels like a celebrity sighting! "You've got it made at Stephen Wade!" Also, any time I'm at the movies you see him on the big screen before the movie starts! Let's make him our OFFICIAL mascot!
3. The HORRIFIC Dixie State Bullnado:
If you can remember back about... 15 years ago, Dixie State University dropped "The Rebels" and picked up "Red Storm" as their mascot. The community HATED IT. The mascot was a combo of a tornado and a bull. It was SO BAD. Let's bring him out of retirement.
4. My co-host, Aaronee:
Everyone loves Aaronee. She's never said a swear word, doesn't watch R-Rated movies, and has NEVER farted in front of her husband in almost 18 years! WOW!
NEW STORE: Digby's Market: Southern Utah Will LOVE This Place!
There's a BRAND NEW Grocery Store in town... and It's going to be AWESOME!
DIGBY'S MARKET - 1955 Snow Canyon Parkway, St. George. (Near 'The Canyons' Softball Complex)
Digby's reminds me of a mix between Lin's Market & Harmon's. It's a smaller location, but they have nearly EVERYTHING! Besides the common grocery store departments, they also have...
- House-Made Sushi
- Beer Cave
- Sweets & Treats
- House-Made Gourmet Popcorn
- Ice Cream Parlor
- Floral Shop
- Local Merchandise (Mugs, Cups, Hats, etc.)
- Taco Bar (Coming Soon)
- Salad Bar (Coming Soon)
- Daily House-Made Tortillas (Coming Soon)
The owner, Tim Rigby, moved his family down from Logan, Utah. Tim wanted to create a very local business, and he's nailed it with Digby's Market.
Digby's Market is clean and DEFINITELY unique. I'm really excited to try the house-made tortillas!
With the slogan "Better In Utah", you will feel it inside Digby's. They have A TON of locally sourced foods, and merchandise.
Digby's has merchandise from local artists too! Like Snow Canyon Mugs, Snow Canyon Hats and beanies! Plus ALL the "Better In Utah" Merch, as well!
I especially love the Ice Cream Parlor!
Another incredibly unique thing that Digby's Market has is Switchpoint Coffee, being locally roasted down the road with Switchpoint Community Resource Center, our local homeless shelter.
Digby's is open Monday - Saturday 7am-11pm. Closed Sundays.
This place is awesome! You'll love it!
It's Not ALL THAT: The 10 Worst Parts Of Southern Utah!
1. Old-Timey Drivers:
Lots of drivers over the age of 80 driving around. They like to drive very slow and safe, which is fantastic! Also, the blinker either stays on for at least 30 seconds, or no more than 1 second. There is NO in between!
I understand they're difficult to understand, but it is a CIRCLE-O-DEATH around these parts! People will drift into on-coming traffic, no yielding, too much yielding, or just straight up going THE WRONG WAY!
3. Old-Timey Drivers IN Round-A-Bouts:
This is like when an immovable object meets an unstoppable force. NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS HERE! This is where things get REALLY interesting! Once, I about went HEAD-ON with an old gal (About 85) going the wrong direction, with her mouth wide open. She was DEFINITELY screaming!
4. Seat Belt Brands:
If you're here in the summer, you gotta be careful out here! Those seat belts will straight up BRAND YOU if you're not careful. The inside of the car reaches AT LEAST 150 degrees, and that metal gets SO HOT!
5. Sunday Restaurant Hours:
Drive down Bluff Street on a Sunday around 6... It is a GHOST TOWN! If you want to find somewhere to eat, GOOD LUCK! It's going to be tough. Fast Food will be open, but anywhere else? That's going to be a tough one!
6. Lack Of Water Park:
COME ON GUYS! Let's do a water park! The St. George City Pool Hydro-Tube is dope, but it's humiliating when a 14 year old kid blows his whistle at me while doing chicken fights with the boys!
7. No Cheesecake Factory within 100 miles:
This is some BS! I need a Cheesecake Factory! It's worth getting fat for.
8. May - October:
It's just miserable. It's SO HOT! The temp hits 95 degrees and you think "WOW... It can't get hotter!", and suddenly it's 115 and we have boob sweat everywhere we go. But then someone from Florida shows up and says "At least it's a dry heat!"
9. THE SCORPIONS:
If you're lucky enough to live somewhere that DOESN'T get the Scorp-o's... COUNT. YOUR. BLESSINGS! I've been stung 3 times, and it sucks SO BAD! NUMB FOR DAYS!
10. The people that comment on this telling me "If you don't like it here, leave.":
LOL... Just laugh at my stories. Stop taking me so seriously. It's going to be okay!
4th Of July Concert Announced... People Are PISSED!
Earlier this week, the City of St. George and Canyon Media announced the 4th of July performer: Kelsea Ballerini.
Kelsea has an array of hits like "Dibs" "Love Me Like You Mean It" "Yeah Boy" "Dibs" and "Peter Pan". And she's the first Female Headliner for the 4th Of July celebration... maybe ever?
However, after it was announced that Kelsea would be here on Independence Day, Facebook BLEW UP with upset people.
"What a joke!"
"No Thanks! Keep our children safe!!"
"Kelsea and the drags.."
"I wouldn't walk across the street to see her. Sick, twisted, nouns and pronouns."
"Might want to rethink that choice."
"Really St. George??? I'm certain there were much better options rather than bringing someone who wants to shove trans down our kids throat."
"I like Kelsea, but she really lost me at the Country Awards"
The "Country Awards" that people are referencing are the 2023 CMT Awards, where Kelsea hosted with Kane Brown. Near the end of the awards show, Kelsea performed her song "If You Go Down (I'm Goin' Down Too)" in which she had four drag queens on stage behind her.
Now, if you've watched the performance, the drag queens weren't dressed scantily, nor were they holding signs or making a political message. However, It didn't matter to much of the country audience.
The 4th Of July concert will be held on July 4th at The Greater Zion Stadium, Utah Tech University's Football Stadium. Will you be attending the show? Does it bother you that Kelsea Ballerini will be here performing?
Southern Utah's Wish List For 4th Of July Concerts!
The 4th Of July Celebration happens every year and the radio station across town always puts it on. They bring in a Country artist and the stadium is PACKED! Everyone in town goes to the celebration! Here is who I believe they should target for THIS YEAR'S 4th Of July Concert in St. George!
She's BACK! People are going NUTS for Taylor Swift, and... She doesn't have another tour date on July 4th. GO GET HER GUYS!!
The REAL King of Country Music! Like Taylor Swift, he sells out INSTANTLY! This is a HOME RUN for Southern Utah! YES!
I don't care what ANYBODY says... Nickelback is AMAZING! They have a new album out, and we need them here! 4th of July Baby!
Insane Clown Posse:
ICP! Juggalo's Assemble! Southern Utah would LOVE Insane Clown Posse live at Trailblazer stadium! Everyone in Juggalo face paint would really bring the community together!
Backstreet's Back ALRIGHT! This is actually the group I would be most excited about. I went to them in April and it was the BEST SHOW I've ever seen! I would lose it if we got them!
Eminem is a LEGEND! We need this so bad. The community would come out and support Marshall!
Green Day seems like a solid choice for a 4th of July celebration. Granted, they DO have an album called "American Idiot" though... So that might kind of suck.
Guns N' Roses:
YES!!! Paradise City, November Rain, Sweet Child O' Mine, Welcome to the Jungle! GIVE US GNR THIS 4TH OF JULY!
Southern Utah Restaurants We REALLY Miss!
Orange Julius was in the Food Court at the mall. The Food Court that LITERALLY doesn't exist anymore, directly outside of Bohme and Dillards. I miss you, Orange Julius.
Yes, I know Cedar City still has Sizzler, but St. George used to have one too! Right on St. George Boulevard. The current location is home to Alta Bank and looks NOTHING like a Sizzler!
St. George had a JB's, and even Hurricane had a JB's. It was like, a little Dennys, kind of... But they had a buffet! The breakfast buffet was MY FAVORITE!! The JB's location is currently home to Zupas!
2 Fat Guys Pizza:
2 Fat Guys Pizza had a HORRIBLE location, but AMAZING pizza! It was in the little shopping center to the south of Walmart in Bloomington. Hungry Howies and Peppers Cantina are in the same spot that 2 Fat Guys used to be in. It was wood fired pizza, and delicious. After 2 Fat Guys left, MULTIPLE pizza places came into the same location and just couldn't make it work.
Charlie's was a cute little restaurant that had ice cream, and soup, and sandwiches and always had a jukebox playing music. I miss Charlie's ALL THE TIME! Especially when I get sick. I miss that Chicken Noodle Soup. Charlie's location is now home to Swig on St. George Boulevard.
