When it comes to some good REAL American food, you can think of burgers and fries, or maybe even pizza (American pizza) or... BARBECUE! If you've been craving some good barbecue, whether it's a pulled pork sandwich, brisket, or some ribs, you probably have noticed your local spot has disappeared! Well, you're not alone. A very well known BBQ chain has quietly been shutting down all over the country, leaving all of us wondering if it's our fault! Where will we get that delicious meat, or mouth watering sides? These restaurants have simply vanished!

WHAT RESTAURANT IS CLOSING ALL OVER?

It's Dickey's Barbecue Pit! They were once a major player in the bbq game. But, lately, it's been shrinking all over the country. Over the past few years, they've shut down a BUNCH of locations! In 2018, they closed 113 locations, and last year they shut down 97 more! That's 20% of the remaining locations. Utah has 2 left, while Nevada has 4!

HOW ARE THEY GOING TO SAVE THE REMAINING RESTAURANTS?

Dickey's has a plan though! They're going to be making some major changes to keep the remaining restaurants open! Here's their plan to remain open:

  • Tripling the field operations team: If you have a Dickey's near you, and you need a job! Maybe you can help!
  • Adding area operations teams: They’ve created specialized teams to work inside restaurants and improve daily performance.
  • New financial operations team: A group dedicated to reviewing each store’s finances to keep things afloat.
  • Franchisee advisory committees: Operators now have more say in how things are run.
  • Flexibility in marketing: Everyone is marketing now, so you have to be creative in your marketing! Make people remember DICKEY'S when it's time to eat!
  • Investing in digital sales: The chain has ramped up efforts in online orders and even launched a “white label” delivery service through their own app.
