Inside Utah’s Ice Cream Obsession: One Flavor Rules Them All
Ooooo school is almost out and summer is almost here! I have been craving sweet treats a lot lately. Ice cream, slushies, snow cones and popsicles are all on my radar.
According to The Daily Universe at BYU and Farr Better Ice Cream Co, Utah consumes 4 times the amount of ice cream per capita than any other state in the nation. I knew we loved it, but I never would have guessed that stat. It is a perfect semi-cheap date night. My husband and I like to take our kids out for ice cream and there are plenty of options.
Many creameries in Utah tout getting lots of their ingredients (including dairy) locally sourced to make sure their ice cream is rich & creamy. My mouth is watering now. Utah is great at ice cream!

Our family's favorite spot to hit when we are up north is Leatherby's. We will be up there this weekend for a family reunion so Leatherby's here we come! So many options to choose from. The banana split is HUGE, and the caramel is to die for. Leatherby's serves so many options, and a ton you need to share, that we don't get bored with it.
These pics don't do it justice. This banana split is massive! I swear there is a pint of ice cream on there. Two people don't even finish it. Maybe three people if they are hungry.
Oh, the caramel on this is amazing. Again, this sundae is so big you would have to be a trained competition eater to finish this alone.
Utah's #1 Favorite Ice Cream
Out of all of the flavors out there, Utahns choose.........
Utahns love cookies-and-cream (or Oreo) ice cream. It's the top pick besides vanilla and chocolate. There are plenty of spots to get great ice cream too. From Handel's Home Made Ice Cream in St George, Utah, and The Creamery in Beaver, Utah to Aggie Ice Cream in Northern Utah, we've got plenty of delicious choices. Aggie Ice Cream is amazing and has been voted in the top 5 in the state several times.
Everyone I know loves cookies and cream, I don't get it, that might be my last choice. If there are toppings, I choose vanilla as the backdrop. If I'm just eating ice cream, I choose like a moose tracks or something with nuts and caramel. Ooooh or cookie dough. Or if the ice cream is super frozen and hard enough to chew, I choose chocolate. (I don't have sensitive teeth.)
BONUS HINT: Also, now is the time to get stocked up on ice cream and popsicles because they might make it home from the store without them melting. Here comes summer!
