The day was July 9, 1998. Taberone Honie of Cedar City busted through the glass door of his ex-girlfriend's mother's home. The ex-girlfriend's mother, Claudia Benn, was 49 years old, and was home with her three granddaughters. Honie attacked her, sexually assaulted her, and slashed her throat FOUR TIMES from ear to ear, and stabbed her repeatedly with a kitchen knife. He was convicted a year later of the murder and was sentenced to death.

If THIS case isn't a 'Death Sentence' case... I don't know what is. Luckily Honie was sentenced to death in 1999. But here's the problem.

This murder happened 9,470 days ago. That's 25 years, 11 months, and 3 days! I'm 32 years old now, and this happened when I was 6 years old. This man has been able to live an extra 25 years, 11 months, and 3 days after murdering someone in cold blood in front of her granddaughters. Our tax dollars have been paying to keep this guy alive. Feed him. Cloth him. Give him Air Conditioning on hot days, and heat on cold days... for nearly 26 years.

A judge has FINALLY signed the Execution Warrant to put Honie to death. He will die via lethal injection on August 8, 2024. By the time Honie is finally put to death it will be 26 years and 30 days since he took the life of Claudia Benn.

This man takes the life of a wonderful person in the Paiute community. She was a substance abuse counselor for the Paiute Tribe in Cedar City.

26 years is too long. That is not swift justice. I don't know if this is even justice at all. Honie was 22 at the time of the murder and will die at the age of 48. Utah... Figure it out!
