The Power of Setting in Storytelling

Some of the most iconic stories ever told are tied just as much to WHERE they take place as what actually happens in them! When you think of the book To Kill A Mockingbird, you imagine the Deep South, right? How about The Shining? That creepy, snowed in hotel in Colorado. I mean Twilight is practically the entire state of Washington at this point, and The Lord of the Rings has made an entirely fictional place like Middle-Earth feel totally real! Setting matters... it shapes the story, the mood, and sometimes it even becomes a character too.

Discovering Books Set in the Beehive State

Now here's where it gets interesting: Utah doesn't always get the same spotlight in books, but it really should! This state has everything from red rocks, vast deserts, sharp, picturesque mountains, quiet little towns, deep-rooted history, and a culture and its absolutely unique. It's the kind of place that could fit just about any genre from mystery, to romance, to thrillers! While it may not be the first setting that comes to mind, there are actually quite a few books that take place right here in the Beehive State. Once you start noticing them, you'll realize they deserve a ton more attention!
