Have you been feeling a little under the weather lately? If so, you're not alone! There's been a bunch of viruses hitting hard all across the US from Strep Throat, Walking Pneumonia, Rsv, and Whooping Cough. However the US Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (The CDC) has revealed that one virus is running rampant right now, reaching it's highest levels!

The virus that's been showing up with vengeance? Influenza A. Yep, The Flu or Influenza A has been hitting people all over Nevada. So now, instead of avoiding your co-workers in the break room, there's a new villain in town ready to knock you down!

What’s Going On?

The health officials all over the country have been following flu cases and they've now seen a big increase! This is more than just a few sneezes or congestion. Influenza has gone from Medium to HIGH activity levels over the past few weeks! Winter is happening right now and that means people are spending a ton more time indoors. That's pretty much a perfect storm for germs to spread!

Flu Symptoms:

This can also be confusing for people in warmer climates, like Southern Nevada. You may start thinking it's allergies or just a little cold... But it could be Influenza A. Here are the symptoms to keep an eye on:

  • Fever (Being freezing, but somehow sweating your butt off.)
  • Cough the one that keeps you up at night.
  • Sore throat you wake up wondering if you HAVE to swallow to survive.
  • IRunny or stuffy nose (pick your poison).
  • Muscle and body aches that make you wonder if you got run over by a truck .
  • Headaches so bad naps don't even help.
  • Exhaustion (You wake up and are totally ready for a nap.)

What Can You Do?

The Flu season is going to be hanging out until May. However, it's not too late to protect yourself. Here are the best ways to protect yourself against Influenza A:

  • Wash your hands like you're making dinner and just spent the day at the gym.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes (this isn't just for toddlers. It's for adults too).
  • Stay home if you’re sick—come on! It's a day off!

Why Nevada

Nevada has been seeing a huge spike in cases with Las Vegas being a major travel hub, especially during winter time! These germs are hitching rides faster than those jets flying from Nellis. Plus, throw in a little coler weather, keeping people indoors, and Influenza A is comfier than ever!

So, if you've somehow avoided Influenza A, congrats! But if you're reading this feeling totally under the weather, stock up on soup, sleep, and prepare for a week of streaming your favorite shows on your couch!
