Why Sundays in Utah Feel a Little... Different
If you're new to Utah, you might notice something strange around 6 p.m. on a Sunday:
The roads are quiet. The drive-thru line is short. The town feels like it took a deep breath—and then took a nap.

What Sundays Look Like to Newcomers

It’s not just Chick-fil-A that’s closed. Depending on where you are, you might find local stores, bakeries, and even entire shopping centers/malls totally locked up. In smaller towns or more religious communities, it’s not unusual for entire blocks to slow down to a crawl. Not in a bad way. In a peaceful way. We like to get outside, visit friends and family and a lot of us go to church.

For out-of-staters, it can feel a little jarring at first—especially if you’re used to a weekend hustle that includes everything from grocery runs to late-night tacos. But Utah’s Sunday vibe grows on you. It feels like built-in permission to slow down, unplug, and be present. It's a great break from the daily grind and it's like an amazing reboot.
And sure, the first time you really want Swig and it’s closed, it stings. People joke about “craving Chick-fil-A most on Sundays” like it’s a national tragedy—but deep down, there’s a weird respect for a business that draws a line and sticks to it. That’s kind of what Sundays in Utah are like.

It’s not that nothing’s happening, it's just different than the norm. Families have dinner together. Trails are packed. Parks and full of  kids. But the overall monotony of the week dies down for a day.
In a world that never stops, where being too busy is the new normal, there’s something kind of refreshing about a place that still takes a day to refresh.
