WOW: Nevada is FINALLY Getting A Big Winter Snow Storm This Week!
After what has felt like an eternal dry spell, winter is FINALLY about to make an entrance in Nevada! A powerful storm system is set to hit the Silver State from Wednesday night through Friday. This storm is set to bring rain, snow, and some mega winds. If you've been waiting for Mother Nature to finally start acting like it's winter, it's happening!
What to Expect in Nevada
Las Vegas won't be turning into a magical winter wonderland, but the rain is definitely on the way! This much-needed moisture will help break this dry spell that has absolutely dominated this season!
But, if you look toward the higher elevations, that's where you're going to see some real winter weather action!
Winter Storm Dumps Snow On Las Vegas
Major Storm Highlights:
- Spring Mountains & Sheep Range: A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 10 PM Wednesday to 4 PM Friday.
- Snowfall: 12 to 24 inches (WOW) are expected above 7,000 feet, with even higher totals possible on the peaks.
- Winds: Gusts up to 50 mph could make travel a nightmare, so if you had plans to head into the mountains for a hike, maybe rethink that.
What This Means for You
- Las Vegas: Expect wet and slick roads, so leave extra time for your commute and drive carefully... especially on I-15!
- Mountain Areas: Get ready for some heavy snowfall that could make travel extremely dangerous. The danger will be especially high in the higher elevations. If you’re heading toward Mount Charleston, Lee Canyon, or Red Rock Canyon, be prepared for icy conditions and potential closures.
- If you've got outdoor plans? It might be smart to reschedule—unless getting drenched or blown around like a tumbleweed sounds like your kind of fun. No judgement!
