Look, I’m just going to say it—I REALLY hate flying. I'm a 33-year old dad who gets incredibly nervous any time I have to board a plane, but even more nervous when the plane starts to get a little bumpy! The idea that most of the MOST TURBULENT flights in America come from either Utah or Las Vegas is terrifying! Plus, with all of these recent plane crashes, including the one that literally happened this week in Toronto, my anxiety to fly is at an all time mile-high.

If you thought turbulence was just part of the experience... think again! There's actual data that shows some flights are bumpier than the others! Here's the bad news: 6 out of the 10 most turbulent flights involve either Utah or Nevada! That's right, if you're flying out of SLC or LAS, buckle up because you're about to be bumped around!

Top 10 Most Turbulent Flights in the U.S.:

  1. Albuquerque (ABQ) → Denver (DEN)
  2. Denver (DEN) → Jackson Hole (JAC)
  3. Jackson Hole (JAC) → Salt Lake City (SLC) 🚨
  4. Denver (DEN) → Salt Lake City (SLC) 🚨
  5. Bozeman (BZN) → Denver (DEN)
  6. Ontario (ONT) → San Diego (SAN)
  7. Boise (BOI) → Salt Lake City (SLC) 🚨
  8. Bozeman (BZN) → Salt Lake City (SLC) 🚨
  9. Las Vegas (LAS) → Reno (RNO) 🚨
  10. Las Vegas (LAS) → Salt Lake City (SLC) 🚨

Yeah! 60% of the most stomach-dropping, white-knuckle flights in the USA is tied one way or another to Utah and Nevada!

So, why? Why do we have all that turbulence? We can blame the Rocky Mountains for one, and then we can blame the strong wind patters, and high altitude airports. That makes for some really rough air to fly in. If you've ever been on a flight from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City, that flight may have felt like it was held together by yarn and hope!

But, as much as I'd love to never fly again, the reality is: If you live in either Utah or Nevada, we're stuck with these routes, so it's best if we just get over it! Just know if you see me on your flight, hold my hand, tell me it's going to be okay, and tell me "This turbulence is totally normal!"
