History Gone: New Business PAINTS OVER Iconic Cedar City Mural
Canadian company On The Run has just purchased a handful of gas stations across Southern Utah. After buying these businesses, they've rebranded them to "On The Run". So far, we've seen that both Harts in Washington, and KB Express on Main Street in Cedar City have both been rebranded as On The Run stations. While we understand that change happens, and it's inevitable, some Cedar City residents aren't totally appreciating what they've removed inside the store.
MURAL GONE:
The On The Run (formerly KB Express on Main Street) has removed an historic mural that was inside the convenience store. This mural read "THANKS FOR SHOPPING YOUR CEDAR CITY KB" and "HOME OF THE REDMEN" with a MASSIVE 8 foot mural of the former Cedar High School logo. This logo featured a Native American artifacts with arrows, leather, feathers, and CR on top of the leather.

ANGRY CEDAR CITY RESIDENTS:
Cedar City, much like the rest of Southern Utah values history. The removal of this mural has angered many people including the person that sent me these photos. I will keep the name of this person anonymous. This gas station is also located just around the corner from Cedar High School.
CEDAR HIGH NAME CHANGE:
Cedar High school has been the Redmen since the 1940's. In the fall of 2018, the Iron County School Board voted to change the Redmen Mascot to simply the "Reds". They also dropped the Native American mascot and switched it out for a wolf. In April of 2024, after a spirited attempt at reinstating the "Redmen" name, it came down to a vote. The vote to reinstate the Redmen name failed at 3 votes FOR reinstating it, and 4 votes AGAINST reinstating it.
On The Run owns the building. It is their company. However, I feel like covering up that mural may have offended a lot of their customers.
