Jane Goodall Believed Science Meant Listening, Not Dismissing 74 Utah Bigfoot Sightings
Utah has had 74 reported Bigfoot sightings over the years. You may roll your eyes at these reports, but a well known scientist has lent her support to this legendary creature. Jane Goodall kept an open mind about the existence of these wandering harry nomads.
Jane Goodall: A Scientist's Perspective on Sasquatch
Jane Goddall was a world renowned researcher who is best known for living with and studying chimpanzees in Africa. Her work was ground breaking and increased our understanding about these primates which also led to understanding of humans.
Goodall passed away in 2025 and towards the end of her life she gave her reasons why she doesn't write off the existence of Bigfoot or sasquatch legends. She made her views known on podcasts and other interviews.
Reasons to Keep an Open Mind about Sasquatch Accounts
She pointed out that science is about discovery. Writing off hundreds of individual accounts is not what a scientist should do. She said she has spoken to people who believe what they have seen and she sees no good reason to think they are lying.
Goodall tells an interesting account of interviewing hunters in Ecuador who in separate accounts described the same six-foot animals that walked upright. She did not prompt them in anyway and yet they described the same thing.

There are also all the legends and stories handed down from multiple cultures that describe similar creatures. Every continent has a story from the Yeti of the Himalayas, Yowie of Australia, and the Wild Man in China.
She acknowledges the lack of physical proof, and yet, thinks it is important to keep an open mind. I must admit to being a skeptic of these reports, but hearing Jane Goodall was willing to entertain it, makes me think I could be a little more open minded.
