JEALOUSY: Restaurants Cedar City Wish They Had
Cedar City and St. George. Cedar Redmen and Dixie Flyers. It's been a rivalry since the beginning of time. The rivalry is still fierce today, but this time... it has to do with jealousy. Last week, I asked the question "Hey Cedar City... what STG restaurant do you wish was in Cedar City?" Replies poured in...
Here are the TOP St. George restaurants that Cedar City wished they had in their area:
1. Costco Food Court:
The #1 most requested restaurant... The Costco Food Court, and for good reason! At the Costco Food Court you can feed your family for under $20! An entire massive pizza is only $10, a hotdog and drink is $1.50. Not only is the food inexpensive, but it's also incredibly tasty!
2. Texas Roadhouse:
Maybe the best steakhouse in the area, plus it's a lot of fun! Cedar is naturally a pretty "Country" area, I think Texas Roadhouse could be a great fit for Cedar City.
3. Olive Garden:
One of America's best and biggest chains. When you're there, you're family! Besides the Pizza/Pasta factory, where else can you get some good pasta in Cedar City? Come on, guys! Let's make this happen for Cedar! Let's get them those breadsticks!
This one makes INCREDIBLE sense, that I'm a little surprised Cedar City doesn't have an In-N-Out. Here's why it works... Cedar is RIGHT off I-15, and there's not a place to stop for food for about 50 miles both directions. I would imagine they would get major traffic from people traveling through the interstate.
Cafe Zupas is a local Utah company, and I think they could thrive in Cedar City. Cedar gets four seasons, and they get some pretty cold weather. That's SOUP WEATHER, BABY! The only thing is... St. George was begging for YEARS to get a Zupas before they finally got one, and St. George has double Cedar's population. It may be a while before we see a Cafe Zupas in Cedar City, unfortunately.
Huge Celebrities That Found Sobriety In Utah's $100k Per Month Rehab
Many people across the globe struggle with addiction. In the United States alone, 46 Million people age 12 and up have had a substance abuse issue in the last year alone. Many struggle with drug addiction, alcohol addiction, sex addiction, porn addiction, eating disorders, and more.
At the base of the Timpanogos Mountains in Sundance, Utah, there is a Luxury Rehab Facility that costs upward of $100,000 per month. This rehab is called Cirque Lodge, and it is a BEAUTIFUL Mountain wonderland. Over the years, dozens of celebrities have called Utah home and found sobriety right here in our gorgeous state.
These are those celebrities:
This story was inspired by Matthew Perry talking about his time in rehab in Utah in his memoir "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing." I finished the book one day before Perry's passing. Matthew struggled with alcohol addiction and opioids. Matthew checked into this rehab in 2001 where he began his journey to sobriety. He was sober around 2 years at his unfortunate passing.
Another person that mentioned the Cirque Lodge in their memoir. This time, It was John Stamos' new memoir "If You Would Have Told Me". Stamos checked into the Utah rehab facility for alcohol addiction after a very public DUI.
Robert Downey Jr.:
One of the most renowned celebrities in recover, Downey Jr. struggled with cocaine, crack cocaine, and heroin. After a few arrests, RDJ found the motivation to recover from substance misuse. He checked into the Cirque Lodge in the early 2000s.
Lindsay Lohan checked into the Utah Treatment Center in 2007 and 2020 after a DUI-related charge. After completing her rehab, Lohan came back to Utah to shoot her Netflix Christmas movie, Falling For Christmas, which was shot almost exclusively in Park City.
Daniel Radcliffe, more commonly known as Harry Potter found himself struggling with alcohol abuse after his time on Harry Potter. He used alcohol to cope with the fame he found from the Potter franchise. Daniel checked into the facility in 2010. He relapsed a couple years later, but he's now been sober since.
One of the biggest celebrities to be in the facility, Britney Spears has hard a hard time the last 20 years. It appears that Britney was urged by her family to join Linsday Lohan in 2007. If you've read any of Britney's latest memoir, she hasn't had a very easy life since finding fame.
Cara Delevingne, a massive fashion model, and actress checked into Cirque just a year ago, after concerns about "Bizarre bahavior" and fears that she would end up dead. She was treated for her addictions and is now out on her own and doing well.
Half of America's Favorite Twins, Mary-Kate Olsen checked into the Cirque Lodge in 2007 to get help with an eating disorder she was battling. Mary-Kate was only 18 at the time of check-in. Her sister and herself have now found major success in the fashion world where they're both worth around half a billion dollars!
In January 2012, Demi Moore was rushed to the Emergency Room after she collapsed at a party she was having. The woman that called 911 reported that Moore was "Smoking something" (some report she had been inhaling nitrous oxide). This all came at the heels of her break-up with Ashton Kutcher. She checked into the Utah treatment facility in February of 2012. She now is doing well and is helping her daughter, Tallulah Willis with addiction problems of her own.
Eva Mendes checked into the Utah rehab in early 2008 for undisclosed substance abuse issues. She found sobriety and is now married to Ryan Gosling and they have two children together.
Kirsten Dunst really struggled with the death of Heath Ledger and was battling major depression when she checked into the Cirque Lodge in 2008. She was also seen with erratic behavior at the Sundance Flim Festival that year.
These Celebrities From St. George MADE IT BIG... And You Can Too!
I'm a kid from St. George, Utah... Born and raised. I remember when our mall had a Wal-Mart attached to it. I remember when we had ONE school for ALL the sixth grade students. I remember when the Dinosaur tracks were found in a desert now known as "Dino Crossing." But one thing I've always felt... "I'll never make it big. Nobody from here EVER makes it big." Well, that's 100% UNTRUE!
Here are some people who made it big AND grew up in St. George, Utah!
Brendon Urie - Panic! At The Disco:
Brendon Urie is an extremely familiar voice if you're listening to the radio. Panic! has sold MILLIONS of albums and they've become a household name in pop/rock/punk music. Brendon calls Las Vegas home now, but for a time... Dixie was Brendon's home! Brendon was born at Dixie Regional Medical Center on April 12, 1987, and after living here for a few short years, his family up and moved to Vegas. Urie was even a member of the LDS church until he was 17 years old. Panic! at The Disco has since broke up, but I'd be shocked if a reunion wasn't in their future.
Tanya Tucker is an American Country Music singer songwriter. Tanya has 40 top-10 hits and 10 songs that have gone #1! But many don't know that Tanya Tucker once lived right here in St. George! Tanya recorded the smash hit "Delta Dawn" when she was only 13 years old... Living right here in St. George, Utah! Tanya went to school at Woodward, the 6th grade center in 1971, where she befriended my mom! On Wednesday night, Tanya was honored on the CMA awards when my mom pulled out her yearbook showing Tanya in only 6th grade.
Bruce Hurst is an HISTORIC person coming from St. George. Bruce was a pitcher in the Major Leagues in the 80's & 90's. He played for Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, and Texas Rangers. Bruce Hurst made history in the Major Leagues by becoming the first player to win the World Series MVP, to have it swiftly taken away from him. Bruce was the ace pitcher for the Red Sox, and it appeared they were going to win the World Series. The game was ALL BUT OVER, and the announcers deemed Bruce the World Series MVP, before a miracle happened and the New York Mets came back to win the game, and the World Series, thus taking the MVP from Bruce's hands, and putting it into the hands of Ray Knight of the New York Mets.
Dia Frampton was the Runner-Up on Season 1 of the Voice. Dia was on Team Blake and many... including myself, believe Dia should've won the voice. Dia grew up in St. George and attended Dixie High School. Dia was last seen on the latest season of The Voice singing a tribute to Blake Shelton on his final year on the show.
Penei Sewell is an Offensive Tackle for the Detroit Lions. In 2021, Penei was drafted 7th. 7th pick out of 259 picks! Absolutely Incredible. Penei is a graduate of Desert Hills High School, and in his short career, Penei has ALREADY made the Pro Bowl! Sewell signed a four year $24,099,069 rookie contract just two short years ago.
Doug Jolley is a former NFL player from Dixie High School. Doug is a Tight End and played for 3 different teams from 2002-2006. Jolley played for the Oakland Raiders (Whom drafted him), New York Jets, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Doug is the FIRST EVER St. George man to ever start in a Super Bowl game!
