Moment Of Truth: St. George Boy Attempts To Win National Championship In Chicago!

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY for St. George 9 year old, Hendrix Lay. He's already won multiple Elk's Hoop Shoot contests, which has brought him to the National Championships in Chicago, Illinois. Hendrix has been practicing for nearly TWO MONTHS since qualifying for Nationals on February 24th in Las Vegas. Tomorrow is the BIG DAY... and he's ready!

The Elk's Club from St. George have raised money for Hendrix, his parents, and three siblings to fly out to Chicago, stay at the Chicago Hilton, eat some famous Chicago-Style Deep Dish Pizza, and EVEN go to a Chicago Cubs game at Historic Wrigley Field. The Elk's Club has gone above and beyond for the Lay family, as they've really helped take the financial strain off the family's shoulders, allowing Hendrix to go and potentially win the National Championship!

Hendrix will be shooting in a Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry jersey and his family, friends, and other spectators will be at the Wintrust Arena hoping for the best for Hendrix! Hendrix has mentioned many times how he "likes the pressure", and the pressure will definitely be on Saturday morning when he's taking on the best-shooting 9 year olds in the country.

Hendrix has been practicing his free throws for the last two months at the St. George Rec Center, parks around St. George, and even open church gyms. He's a very streaky shooter, as you'll see him make 15 in a row, or miss 4 in a row. Hopefully Saturday morning, we'll see the MAKES in a row and less of the misses in a row.

If Hendrix wins tomorrows National Championship, he'll be the first Utah child to win the title since 2014, and the first child from St. George to win since 2005. Send all the good vibes for Hendrix, and maybe come Saturday morning, St. George will have a National Champion 9 year old!
