(Pics) Large Rock Slide On Highway 14 in Southern Utah!
***Highway 14 CLOSED*** Highway 14 is currently closed due to an active rock slide. Estimated time of opening is unknown at this time, please avoid the area.
This notification went out this morning around 6:40am and several news agencies covered it and yet we still get a ton of questions about how to avoid and travel around the area so here are some of the details.
Hwy 14 (Cedar Canyon) is temporarily CLOSED as UDOT crews work to assess and clear the area. Please take alternate routes to visit places like Cedar Breaks, Navajo Lake, and Duck Creek. How do you access these places? Hwy 143 through Parowan Canyon is open. Plan extra time in your schedule for the detour.
"So this happened, literally right in front of us, & two other vehicles, on the way down the 14 this morning, between Duck Creek Village & Cedar City, approx 6:42 AM. The 14 was immediately closed in both directions within 5 mins of the slide. The slide is at approx mile marker 7. CRAZY!
- Visit Duck Creek/facebook
Road is closed at approx mile marker 5 on the low side, & mile marker 18 (Brianhead turn) up top. The earth was still movin’ & shakin’ the whole time we were there (which wasn’t long), turned around & headed back up the mtn. Be careful in your travels!!"
