It feels like everywhere we turn, prices are UP! Electricity bills, gasoline, clothes, fast food, and DEFINITELY groceries. It's called "inflation", but why does "inflation" never inflate our salaries? Pretty ridiculous if you ask me! Surprisingly, a lot of businesses have done pretty well in the past year... One of those businesses is the subject of this entire article. Well, a certain grocery chain has JUST ADMITTED to price gouging the public to help their bottom line!

WHO DID THE PRICE GOUGING?!

According to Food Industry, Kroger generated more than $148 billion in revenue during the 2023 fiscal year. However, during recent antitrust hearings, Bloomberg reported that a senior executive from the Ohio-based grocery chain acknowledged the company’s involvement in price gouging. The exec was quoted by saying "raised the prices of eggs and milk more than needed to account for inflation."

WHERE IS KROGER IN UTAH?

That's right... Kroger admitted to price gouging in the United States to account for inflation. Now, we don't actually have a Kroger market in Utah, but we do have Smith's Food & Drug. Smith's has been a subsidiary of Kroger since 1998. Here in Utah, we have 53 Smith's locations!

Currently in Southern Utah we have three Smith's locations. Two in St. George, one in Cedar City, and they're about to open their newest location in St. George off Exit 2, near Sun River.

Does this affect you shopping at Smith's now?
