St George, Plant THIS Right Now!
It is already starting to warm up and we are getting PLENTY of moisture this year. In southern Utah you can plant a lot of things pretty early. Don't let your lack of knowledge stop you from trying out your own little garden this year. When I moved down from northern Utah I knew the growing seasons were vastly different so I just picked a few things I thought would work and went with it. It's like a big experiment. Don't spend too much money so you can just have fun.
Now is a great time to get bulbs in the ground for beautiful spring flowers. You can go get some fruit trees and shrubs and start your landscaping right now. The earlier you get some of these plants in the ground, the better. That way they can take root before the extreme temperatures of a St George, Utah summer try to burn everything up.
I love this time of year. You can start to see signs of spring if you are cleaning up your yard and garden areas. Grab some seed for your grass and start getting fertilizer on everything! It really is not too early.
It seems a little early for gardening but it is just right to get some of the cold hardy plants started.
Veggie plants that you should get in the ground right now include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, onions, asparagus and kale.
Small plants you can plant starting in March:
Basil, oregano, kohlrabi, sage, swiss chard, thyme and lettuce.
Happy gardening! ♥
