In Utah we like to pick our vices and really stick to them. Whether it's massive amounts of sugar or dirty caffeine or both, there are plenty of quick stop options for you to feed your addiction.
So what will help you lose weight and get heathier? I know you are not gonna like the answer, but.....
The #1 thing that can help you shed some pounds and get healthier is choosing better beverages. According to the CDC- "Getting enough water every day is important for health. Drinking water can prevent dehydration, which may cause unclear thinking, mood change, overheating, constipation, and kidney stones. Water has no calories, so replacing sugary drinks with plain water can help reduce caloric intake." I actually agree with them on this one. ;)
So many times, the drinks that we choose are full of sugar, caffeine or chemicals. Choosing sugar free options doesn't help you get the nutrition or the water that you need to hydrate and cleanse your body. Plus, sugar free anything is almost certain to have an amazing amount of synthetic ingredients and chemicals.
Everything in your body need water to filter, hydrate or cleanse. If you don't get enough water intake, you lose memory function, will have digestion problems, and get poor sleep.
According to the Mayo Clinic we need a lot of water everyday to cleanse and keep our organs healthy. Here's what they say:
"So how much fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:
About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men
About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women"
I know you are saying to yourself, " I'm not gonna give up my Diet Coke. Or- I deserve my drinks stops, it saves my sanity!," but, your health really does suffer from it. And you don't always see a quick or direct correlation.
Start small. Pick a couple days per week where you are going to really concentrate on trying to get in all of your water and then treat yourself on the other days. Also if you can choose honey or real cane sugar to sweeten the beverages you do consume, it will be processed by your body far better than chemicals.
