The 10 MOST FAMOUS Foods That Utah Is Known For
Utah can dish up a meal! We've got traditions dating all the way back to Native American's, Pioneers, and our farmers. Utah's food feels very "home cooked" most of the time, and it's incredibly unique to Utah. I've compiled a list of Utah's TOP 10 foods!
HERE ARE UTAH'S 10 MOST FAMOUS FOODS:
Funeral Potatoes:
Number one. You were already expecting it... Funeral Potatoes. It's a Utah staple! This is essentially hash browns mixed with cream of chicken soup and shredded cheese, baked into a casserole with corn flakes on top. It sounds bizarre, but it is INCREDIBLE! They're not only found in Funerals, they're also found at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Baby Blessings, Baptism Luncheons, or just a normal Tuesday night. Funeral potatoes SLAP!
Cheese:
Obviously, Wisconsin is generally known for being the cheese capital of the United States, but they've never had OUR CHEESE. We've got Cache Valley cheese up in Cache County, and creameries everywhere you look, but my favorite cheese is located in Beaver at The Creamery. At The Creamery, they've got those cheese curds that are AMAZING! Plus, there's so many flavors like: Cheddar, Salsa, Jalapeno and Green Onion.
Enterprise Corn:
If you love corn on the cob, DO NOT TRY ENTERPRISE CORN! Enterprise corn is SO DELICIOUS that any other corn on the cob just isn't good enough. It will ruin all corncobs for you. But if you have the ability to ONLY eat Enterprise corn, then you need to take that opportunity. It's incredible.
Scones:
This feels like maybe the MOST Utah item on the list. A hot scone with honey butter MAY be the best thing you ever put in your mouth. You don't find them around much anymore, but everytime I'm at Chuck-A-Rama, I'm absolutely having a scone. Also, if you're lucky enough to have a good scone recipe at home, then you know how incredible a scone can be!
Fry Sauce:
It's ours, we created it! Well, kind of. The exact origin of Fry Sauce is a battle between 3 people. Arctic Circle created Fry Sauce, but the Founder, Don Edwards claims he created the iconic sauce. However, two employees of Arctic Circle, Ron Taylor and Max Peay, claim THEY created the sauce. Either way, It's a simple mixture: one part ketchup, one part mayonnaise. But it's good with fries, burgers, corndogs, and even potatoes.
Pastrami Burger:
This is the one item on the list that I really don't care for. Utah LOVES a Pastrami Burger. It's just a normal burger with a slice of pastrami on top. But to me, Pastrami on a burger just tastes like a hotdog on a burger, and I don't really love it. Greek immigrants in Salt Lake City created the Pastrami Burger in the early 1960's, and people are still loving these burgers!
Dutch Oven:
My favorite kind of dinner is Dutch Oven Potatoes. It's incredibly simple. Slice up bacon, potatoes, throw in some chicken breast, some onion, let it slow cook and top it with cheese! It's AMAZING! This is what the pioneers brought over, and how they cooked their dinners! In 2024, it's still amazing food.
Specialty Soda:
Nothing screams Utah more than this! Swig, Fiiz, Thirst, Sip-N, Sodalicious, etc. It all began years ago with Swig and now it's blown up into a billion dollar market. People love their soda here. I don't think it's because a lot of Utahns don't drink, but that seems to be everyones reasoning behind the success.
Green Jell-O:
I'm sure I've had this before, but I have literally zero recollection about it. Apparently some Utahns put carrots in their green Jell-O. I'm calling BS on that! I've never seen it... Maybe I'm just hoping that it's really untrue!
Ice Cream Shakes:
Another one that is huge around here is the Ice Cream Shakes! It's a very simple idea, ice cream mixed with lots of candy. Arctic Circle and Iceberg lead the charge in this category in Utah!
