A salmonella outbreak has hit multiple states across the US, including Utah. These eggs are linked to eggs sold out of Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois. So far, this has resulted in 24 hospitalizations and 65 illnesses in 9 states.

WHAT EGGS ARE AFFECTED:

The eggs that are affected apply to Milo's Poultry Farms and Tony's Fresh Market eggs including those labeled cage-free or organic. People that have been reported sick come from the states of Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota California, Colorado, Illinois, and Iowa. This doesn't mean other states aren't affected, it simply means MOST cases have come from these states.

SYMPTOMS OF SALMONELLA:

The symptoms of a salmonella infection typically begin 6 hours to 6 days after ingesting contaminated food or water. Here are the most common symptoms:

  1. Diarrhea (which can be severe)
  2. Abdominal cramps
  3. Fever
  4. Nausea
  5. Vomiting
  6. Chills
  7. Headache
  8. Muscle pains

Symptoms usually last 4 to 7 days, and most people recover without treatment. However, in severe cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and other parts of the body, which can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. If you suspect salmonella poisoning, especially in vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, or immunocompromised individuals, it's important to seek medical attention.

The CDC has said  "Some people—especially children younger than 5 years, adults 65 years and older, and people with weakened immune systems—may experience more severe illnesses that require medical treatment or hospitalization."

Check your fridges for eggs from either Milo's Poultry Farms or Tony's Fresh Market Eggs, and if you have them, THROW THEM OUT! DO NOT INGEST!
