Pioneer Day Plans: What to do on July 24 in Southern Utah
If you’re in Southern Utah on July 24, don’t let it pass you by like just another summer day. Pioneer Day is a legit statewide celebration, and Southern Utah mixes the charm of small-town parades with some pretty cool outdoor adventures. Whether you’re in it for tradition or just want something to do outside, here are five fun ways to celebrate.

Local Parades and Pioneer Day Festivals

1. Hit a Local Parade and Festival
Cities like St. George, Enterprise, and Cedar City go all out with parades and Pioneer Day festivals. You’ll see fire trucks, marching bands, kids on scooters, and someone throwing saltwater taffy into a crowd. Afterward, stay for booths, local food, live music, games, and late-night fireworks. It’s laid-back, but always fun.
2. Grab a Seat at a Rodeo
If you're feeling a little western, The Days of ’47 Rodeo in Salt Lake is one of the biggest shows in the state. But smaller towns like Panguitch, Kanab, or even Parowan usually host local rodeos too—with cheaper tickets and easier parking. You’ll still get the bull riding, the barrel racing, the mutton bustin’, and all the dusty, rowdy fun.

3. Cool Off with Water or Go for a Hike
If it’s hot (and it will be), head to Sand Hollow for paddleboarding or floating. It’s easy to rent gear, and the water is warm. If you’re more of a hiking type, Zion is still a win. Trails like Emerald Pools are shady, not too steep, and reward you with views and waterfalls.
4. Local Music, Food, and Art
There’s plenty happening if you’re sticking around town. Check out 435 Locals for food truck events, outdoor concerts, and gallery shows. The “Escape from Reality” art exhibit is perfect if you need AC and want something a little different.

5. Stay Up for the Stars
When the fireworks end, the real show begins. Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Snow Canyon, or even the edge of town make perfect spots to watch the Milky Way stretch across the sky. Bring a blanket, lie back, and just take it all in.
