CONTROVERSIAL: TV Show Filmed In St. George Wins Emmy (PHOTOS)
The Max show "We're Here" has won 4 Emmy Awards, two of which are the St. George episode! We're Here is about 3 former Drag Show contestants that go to different cities and help queer people with some issues, dress them up, and have a big drag show for the community.
Last night I watched the St. George episode. It's about an hour long, but was SO COOL to see our city on TV like it was. The Drag Queens (Bob, Eureka, and Shangela) are at the Splash pad, the Temple Visitor Center, and up near Dixie Rock. They have nice things to say about the people of St. George, like "They're very nice... Too nice!"

There was controversy about a social media post that St. George Councilwoman Michelle Tanner wrote about her worries of having a Drag Show at Town Square. The stars of the show talked a lot about Michelle in this episode.
The Meeting at Town Hall:
There were people for the drag show, people against the drag show, and even a man who asked about having "MAGA MONTH" in St. George.
THE DRAG SHOW AT TOWN SQUARE:
Regardless of how you feel about the Drag Show, it was really cool to see such a big event at Town Square downtown, and I think we should have TONS more huge events in the future there. The backdrop of the Tabernacle and Carousel is awesome!
We're Here won TWO Emmy Awards for the St. George episode! Whether you liked it or not... St. George won, and I think that's really cool. I especially loved seeing the city I've grown up in on tv. You can tell the producers of the show were shocked at the beauty our city holds.
PLEASE! These Southern Utah Restaurants NEED A Drive-Thru In 2024!
Look... It's almost 2024! I'm sick of having to get out of my car to go pick my food up. Zupas has it all figured out! I need a drive-thru for these restaurants! It's ABSOLUTELY CRIMINAL that these places DO NOT have a drive-thru window!
Here is a list of the TOP RESTAURANTS that NEED a drive-thru:
Durango's:
This one is BY FAR the worst! The Durango's parking lot is ALWAYS full, and a long walk away. I would cry happy tears if they had a drive-thru window in the back! Costa Vida has one in both Cedar City, Hurricane, and St. George! Cedar's Cafe Rio has one! LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN, DURANGO'S!
ANY Subway:
I just had Subway with my dad and was PISSED. Pissed I had to get out of the car to order my sandwich, and pissed at myself for being so lazy. I've seen TONS of Subways with Drive-Thru windows. With the 80 Subways we have here, do we seriously not have ONE with a window?!
Pasta Factory:
If you're thinking... "Wait, they do have a drive-thru window!", YOU'RE WRONG! Pasta Factory DOES NOT send their food up to the Pizza Factory window anymore. This one especially sucks because their parking lot is TINY at Pasta Factory, and it's so inconvenient to park and run in to grab your food! Yes, I know the Pine View "Express" location has one, but I'm talking about the OG, Pasta Factory, baby!
SuperChix:
This was BY FAR the most requested restaurant in St. George for a drive-thru window. I've never had SuperChix, but this is absolutely making me want to try! They're in the old SmashBurger location on Red Cliffs Drive. Starbucks has their drive-thru, let's give SuperChix theirs!
Angelica's Mexican Grill:
Angelica's also has a TINY parking lot, and always a line to get into the building! A nice little drive-thru window would be PERFECT! I would go there every week!
Tom's Deli:
Tom's Deli is a St. George staple! But I NEVER go there. However, if there was a drive-thru window, I would totally order food to go! Most other sandwich places have a window! Why not Tom's?
Crumbl:
Crumbl having a drive-thru would be a HUGE PROBLEM for me... They already offer curbside that is lightning fast! If I had the ability to drive up to Crumbl, order a cookie and drive away all in under a minute... I'd be in BIG TROUBLE!
The Orange Peel:
Stacy Brady said "Orange Peel." and She's absolutely right! Call me crazy (or lazy) but I think any any drink or smoothie shop should ABSOLUTELY have a drive-thru spot! But neither does Jamba, too!
Five Guys:
This one actually INFURIATES me! This building literally has a drive-thru window and they choose NOT to use it! I understand that it's part of Five Guys brand to not do drive-thru, but they opened it during Covid and it was SO NICE! Your burgers are great, guys, but I'm too lazy. I'll just go to In-N-Out!
Best Places To Put a THIRD Temple In St. George!
This is a story that is bound to make EVERYBODY happy. I'm sure there won't be a single person upset with this story! St. George just finished the four year renovation of the St. George Temple, and the new Red Cliffs Temple is set to open shortly as well! But why stop there? Why not add a third Temple in St. George? While we're at it, let's add more temples across Southern Utah.
Here are the places around St. George that should ABSOLUTELY get an LDS Temple soon!
The Tuacahn Temple:
Maybe the most GORGEOUS part of St. George is Ivins out near Tuacahn! Let's put a temple out there. Look how incredible it looks! Plus, you could catch a play after you do your baptisms for the dead!
The Dixie Temple:
One major thing about temples is that you should be able to see them from all over! Nothing would be more visible than putting the new temple right up on top of the Sugarloaf aka Dixie Rock. In the Bible it says a wise man built his house on a rock... Dixie Rock!
The Hurricane Temple:
Hurricane is growing like CRAZY! Let's put a temple out there! Even Molly's Nipple is visible in the background here!
The Sand Hollow Golf Course Temple:
This actually looks more like a scene from Star Wars than real life... But it could be real! Every time I take the back way to Sand Hollow, I think it's so gorgeous there! This would be visible to all the people traveling on the new Southern Parkway to Zion National Park.
The Springdale Temple:
Springdale is flawless already. It's so gorgeous. Why would you not want to put a temple there just outside of one of the most incredible National Parks?
The Gorge Temple:
This one is probably not very possible... But inside The Gorge is also so beautiful. Every time I drive through, I'm in awe of all the beauty! There's no phone service, but who needs it when you're at the temple?!
If The LDS Church Made THESE CHANGES... Attendance Will SKYROCKET!
Nowhere in the Bible does it say "CHURCH NEEDS TO BE BORING!" If church wants to see higher attendance, we need to add a little fun and excitement into the building! Here's my ideas!
1. Clapping and Cheering after someone speaks, performs, or prays:
Every time I'm at church, or a funeral... It always feels SO WEIRD to not cheer for someone after they just belted out a 3 minute song, or a great speech! I'm like COME ON GUYS! GIVE IT UP FOR MY GUY! I'd LOVE to give a speech that I put a week into and have people cheer for me.
2. Popcorn Vendor going up and down the aisles:
It doesn't have to be distracting, but It could help keep me awake and eating popcorn hurts NOBODY. I think this should definitely be a thing!
3: Eating allowed:
Again, more eating. Let's do a potluck starting at 11:30. Get your plate of food, go sit down and eat while the meeting is happening. I can listen and eat. I will probably listen EVEN BETTER if I get to eat during the meeting!
4. TV's with the game on behind the pulpit:
A lot of people miss out on church because there's a big game on! Boom, put a couple TVs in! Volume down, of course. That doesn't hurt ANYBODY!
5. MORE crazy people:
Have you ever been to church when a crazy person starts going on about some nonsense at the pulpit, and they drag them off the stage? I have! And it's awesome! Plus... Great marketing for church in general! You know you would go to work the next day and tell EVERYONE about it! People would go "Shoot! I wanna go to church and see that!"
6. Better Hours! Start Church at Noon daily:
What is this "Start church at 9am" BS?! It's the WEEKEND! LET ME SLEEP IN! Noon seems fine. Sleep until 11. Shower. Head on down for a fun couple hours at church!
7. Live Music:
I know some churches do this... Why not more? God gave these people amazing talents. SHOW THEM OFF! That's way better than hearing about some guy taking down a giant with a rock! I wanna see REAL LIFE GOD GIVEN TALENT!
8. Slideshows prepared by speaker:
Instead of boring me with your speech about your mission... Build a slideshow that runs behind you! I'm a VISUAL LEARNER! Take a couple hours, build an awesome slide show, and I'll definitely pay better attention!
9. Themed Days:
I love a THEMED DAY! Hippie Day. Camouflage Day. Funny Hat Day. There are SO MANY possibilities! This could be a lot of fun. If someone was like "Hey it's Sports Jersey Day at church, man." YOU KNOW You'd be like... alright let me find my Jerry Rice jersey!
10. Less Bible stuff... More "How to be a great person" Stuff:
This one I believe to my absolute CORE! We're here to be better people. Let's have some speeches about that! I wanna hear how you broke your addiction to cocaine and strippers and how you're here today with your family! Tell me how you built your business up to 1000 employees! I'm SO INTERESTED in that!
Katy Perry Music Video Shot In St. George, Utah!
Have you ver heard of the term "An oldie but a goodie"? Well that's exactly what this song and music video is. Katy Perry's 2016 hit "Rise" was the official song of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. But did you know that the Rise music video was shot almost exclusively right here in Southern Utah? That's right! It's one of the most gorgeous music videos of all time, and it was shot in Snow Canyon State Park and Sand Hollow Reservoir. The video has over 213,000,000 views, and for good reason! It's gorgeous!
In the making of the video for Rise, Katy says, "Hey guys, we're out here in Utah. This is not all CGI, we're not in a backlot of a studio... It's beautiful around here, the scenery. It's very National Geographic. I'm getting very dirty." Katy admits this is one of the harder music videos she's ever done. "Why do I continually do this to myself?!"
Perry continued, "We went to Utah. We went to Los Angeles. It's been a great 3 days, it's been very physically tough and trying and hot. I should have gotten into better shape!"
